Interval International / Timeshare Questions
OK, question regarding II. I'm dumb when it comes to timeshares and I always thought they weren't worth the money with the high maintenance fees, but my neighbor offered me one of hers free of charge, all I'd have to pay are the maintenance fees each year of $215. They trade with II. So here's my question. If I deposit her week at her resort a year out, do I have to wait for someone to use my week before I can trade for another week? Or will a value be assigned to my week that I can then use to trade? And I understand I can trade for any available unit if I wait until 60 days out? Is that right? Will I still have that option if no one uses my week?

i'm not sure about what she's saying about the 60 day thing. i only know of the restriction with banking/trading. we've only exchanged a few times (since we have a villa with 2 sides we keep one side, bank the 2nd part and trade it for an extra week that piggy backs the regular week). we've never had a problem exchanging there as while we're in december we're not during holiday weeks.
where is the one that you want to get?
The timeshare is in Coco Beach Florida, but I'll probably always trade. For that price it really doesn't hurt to trade either.

My H and I own at the Kauai Marriott, we've traded once before, and now traded our week this year for the Maui Ocean Club (where you stayed before right??).
Wow, your maintenance fee is so super low, ours is 5 x that!! (alot has to do with all the major reno's there though in the last couple years and presently as well...).
I'm pretty sure you're correct about the 60-day thing, I remember hearing that, we just never wait that long, since we like to get things confirmed up about a half year or so out. You can get a "better" unit, as in larger, better view, etc. but you can also get a downgraded one I was told. They really try to give you a "comparable" unit though. It all depends on what is available for that time...
If you haven't been to the Kauai Marriott yet, you should consider trading for it, we love it!!
Oh, and did your neighbor tell you that if you want to trade, you have to buy a membership with Interval first? I think it's around $100 for the year.
Also, a HUGE plus to trading is you will be given a "free week" certificate that has to be used within a year. We just got our 2nd one, and I'm going to give it to my parents to use. I think you just have to pay a booking fee of $149, I have to check on that. With our first "free week" certificate, we used it for a gorgeous new resort in the Riveria Maya, called the Royal Haciendas. We got a 2 bdrm villa with a freakin' hot tub on the balcony! It was more than awesome...
Wow a free week for trading? Is trading your week the same as depositing your week with Interval? I plan to deposit mine a year out and then try to trade 60 days before for the best available. The reason we would wait until 60 days out is because all available units are open to us, even if our unit is a smaller less desirable one. At least that's my understanding. That would mean that even though we have a small unit, we could possibly score a 2 bedroom.
We have stayed at the Marriott Kaui and we loved it! We were only there one night, but it was fantastic. You will love Marriott Ocean Club. It's right in the heart of the action but still quiet enough to feel like paradise. When you are going? We are going in a few weeks and will probably stay at the Westin Kaanapali Villas.
