Kauai- Luau or Sunset Dinner Cruise?
Hi-
If you were on a limited budget while vacationing and had one night to splurge in Hawaii, would you choose to attend a luau or take a sunset dinner cruise?
I am torn, and I feel we may find the luau too cheesy for us....any thoughts?
Re: Kauai- Luau or Sunset Dinner Cruise?
Do the Na Pali Coast boat tour!! It was the highlight of our first trip there, so fun, and such stunning scenery! We did the sunset dinner cruise with Kauai Sea Tours, I highly rec them.
We also did the Smith Family Luau, which we thought was really good, but I'd do the boat tour over this for sure!
We did both when we were there a few weeks ago (Smith Family Luau, sunset cruise with Captain Andy's on the Southern Star). They both had their positives and negatives, but if I had to choose, I'd say you'd get a better experience with the dinner cruise.
My H, my mom and I all had bouts of sea-sickness on the dinner cruise, so none of us really ate that much of our dinner (plus my steak was a little too well-done for my taste) or partook in the open bar. The scenery was amazing though and we did get to see a lot of whales, including following 2 full breaching whales for about 15 minutes, which was incredible. If we'd taken Dramamine, I probably would have enjoyed it more (I've been on boats on the ocean and not gotten sick before, but once they started cooking, it came on in little waves.)
The luau was a pretty typical-touristy production, but the food was surprisingly delicious and plenty. The show was pretty standard, but fun to watch. Overall, a great thing to do if you have the budget for it, but not necessarily a 'don't miss'.
Yes, this for sure! I'm extremely prone to motion/sea sickness and popped my Dram an hour before and I was more than good the whole time. This has worked for our cruise and another boat tour we went on as well. Won't leave home without it
dinner cruise, for sure. No question about it!
If you are on a tight budget, get takeout for dinner and go to Hanalei Bay for sunset one night (or more!). We don't have a tight travel budget and this is my absolute favorite way to spend dinner. Nothing fancy, just burgers or take-out Chinese in the sand while watching the most incredible sunset in the world...
