Going to go do a TCA peel

I've had the bottle of 15% TCA for a few weeks now, but have been too chicken to do it. I don't have any meetings on Monday or Tuesday, so I'm going to go for it and hope that any peeling is over by the middle of the week! I'm really hoping this will help lighten my freckles.

Re: Going to go do a TCA peel

  • What if it ruins your makeup tattoos? I don't know what TCA is.
  • Aren't you just getting over some really bad redness and inflammation on your cheeks?! Might want to give your skin a break and time to breath before applying anymore chemicals. And fwiw, I have freckles and they are one of my most favorite parts of me. Strangers will comment on how pretty they are in the summertime. They're what makes me, me.

  • I didn't put the tca over any tattoos :)  Also, the redness diminished some time ago.  Those pics I posted weren't current, but were to show how much a copper peptide cream worked on irritation I had in the past.
  • Oh okay. Well I guess as long as the skin has had sufficient time to breath and heal. Personally I'm freaked out by chemicals on my skin and try to stick to natural scrubs and light cleansers and moisturizers, but I know they can yield some amazing results. Hoping your skin doesn't react badly but it seems like you found some peptides and a makeup regimen that can mask that. I'm saddened you don't want to embrace your freckles :-/ but I understand it's to each her own.

I already did the peel (it took like 7 minutes) and my skin hasn't turned red or done anything crazy :)  It will be interesting to see if I actually get any peeling.  I don't want to completely get rid of my freckles, but I have some that are large - more of a sun spot than a freckle.

  • What's TCA? So did it lighten your freckles or do you have to wait to see the results?

  • This is too funny. I was just coming on here to page you that I JUST did mine. :) Though, mine was 12.5% and you did 15%, correct? There was hardly any burning. More like just some very slight tingling. I thought it was going to be much worse! lol

I read on the website to prep your skin in hte weeks beforehand with AHA peels. I've been doing weekly 40% peels (worked my way up to 7 minutes)  for the last month. Those sting a lot worse than this did!

I had a little bit of frosting near the tip of my nose right away. Like within a minute of applying so I neutralized that part immediately. My skin isn't red at all. It looks very normal. The AHA peel has really helped my large pores so far. I hope this just steps it up.

For the pp who was asking what a TCA peel is:

Did you guys get the add ons, too? Like the neutralizer and fan brush?

Also, what AHA peel were you using leading up to it? Was it also from MUAC?

  • I did not get the add-ons for the TCA. The neutralizing solution can be made at home and the ratio is listed on their pamphlets: 1.5 cups of tepid water and 2 tablespoons of baking soda. I applied the peel with a cotton swab. I have a fan brush already but I can't see how that would be easier. I would be afraid of dripping during the application. I watched several youtube videos where it was applied with a cotton swab. ("dinahout" has quite a few very informative videos out there, including follow-ups. She did a 18% peel but it still helped me understand what I was getting myself into.)

I did the 40% glycolic peel also from MUAC. (Clicky) I did purchase a few of the add-ons in that case. The beta hydroxy seems to help. I can't remember if the Prep Solution was extra or came with the peel. If it is extra, save yourself some money and just use witch hazel. That's exactly what it is.

That's so funny that we've both been putting it off and then did it on the same day!  I had no frosting on the first application and minimal stinging.  I did a second layer, and it started frosting on my nose, between my eyebrows, and on the outsides of my eyes (like by my crows feet), so I neutralized my entire face at that point.  I haven't done any AHA peels to prep (just seemed like a pain to me), but I do use Retin A.  I did use the 15%.  It mostly just tingled on the first layer, but it stung pretty bad on the second layer - but still not as bad as I expected.

Right now my skin just feels a bit tight but it looks normal.
