We were only there for a few days but I was completely blown away. We spent two nights in Sabah in Kota Kinabalu. The first day we went to the islands off the coast--they were pretty much my idea of the perfect beaches with crystal clear water and sand the consistency of soft brown sugar.
The second day we drove down to a river and took a few hour boat ride to see the proboscis monkeys and on the last day we went trekking in the jungle. It's the most beautiful place I've ever seen in my life. The sheer diversity of wildlife and ecosystems is astounding. It's not really built up and it's not super touristy and I am already planning to go back in a couple months to see more.
I'll put reviews and info up on my blog in a week or two, but if you're planning a trip around SE Asia you should really look into Borneo.
Re: I've found paradise and it's called Borneo
I'm am so jeleous, the only thing that makes it a bit better is I'm off to Wilson island on Friday for 4 days of paradise closer to home!
I only wish that there were direct flights from Oz to Borneo, it would make it so much more accesible.
Aren't you off to the Phillipines? or do I have my nesties mixed up? Who ever it is I'm interested in hearing that review too.
