I don't know what is going on this week, but I've had some negative experiences with major national charities.
One called our house this morning at 7:55 am. Of course this was one of the rare times DD slept until 8:30. I know a half hour isn't a huge deal, but who calls that early on a Saturday to ask for donations?
Earlier this week, another major charity came door to door asking for money for a specific initiative. I told the woman I was interested and it was a cause I cared about. However, I wanted some sort of hand out, if she had one, and I would donate at a later time. She got angry and insisted I need to do it right there and give her a credit card. Um no. I do not know for a fact you are who you say you are. I'm not handing my credit card over to some woman on my front step tyvm. She got really aggressive. I finally just had to say "good day" and close the door. I ended up calling the charity and telling them what happened. They confirmed their people were going door to door, but also appreciated letting them know how it was handled. They said they in no circumstances push giving a credit card at that moment. I donated over the phone.
I know times are tough and charities are struggling, but I've noticed in general they've become much more aggressive. Its off putting. These stories are just form this week alone. Anyone else notice this?

The chronicle of philanthropy is good.
I also got a solicitation call today - and it was a second ask from my grad school - I already gave once this fiscal year. They thanked me for my first gift and then gave me some spiel about the great need this year for financial aid.
I was surprised that they were calling on a saturday afternoon TBH. The kid was super nice and very well trained, though.
