Progesterone cream? XP H&F

I have been battling horrible acne for the last 6 months and I am at my wits end. I'm willing to try anything at this point but I don't want to put extra hormones in my body and make the problem worse either.

I've been reading about progesterone cream and how it can help with cystic acne. Fom what I can tell it helps with estrogen dominance and balances out hormones somehow. Has anyone ever heard of this? What do you think?

I used it for infertility issues, but have never heard of it being used to treat any kind of acne.

Yes- I realize his is a hormone. Apparently my acne is hormonal occurring around my chin, jawline, and back. My bbt charts have been pretty wonky the last few months as well so it's easy for me to believe that there's some kind of hormone imbalance going on. I'm trying to get into see a doctor that can help me, but so far no luck and the creams that I have been given have not had any effect.

So.. I thought I would turn to you wonderful ladies for advice.

  • I've never heard of that, but I will say that when I got my Mirena IUD (which is progesterone only) my acne got worse for a while.  It did even out eventually, but I had a few months with painful cystic acne and one spot in particular would keep coming back month after month.  I rarely break out now and it's been almost 4 yrs.  Although, being on BCPs prior to the IUD actually helped my acne, I just couldn't tolerate the estrogen otherwise.

  • Oh this is interesting. Glad to hear that everything evened out and your skin did clear up in the end. Thank you for helping me out!
  • I have a wonderful advice; I will first suggest you visit a dietician. The problem may not be diet related but you can heal a substantial amount of acne by having a proper diet. During teenage years, I never had acne but in last few months I had some of the worst breakouts. I started having wheatgrass juice and 4 dates the first thing in the morning, and ghosh it went. Today I have a clear skin. Angel

Thanks for the advice. I agree that diet does affect it. I have changed my diet over the last 2-3 months in an attempt to help. And it has helped some, but very minimally. However, I am getting healthier and have lost 10 lbs.

If you don't mind me asking, what is the significance of wheatgrass juice and dates?
