Help me pack..6 nights in Maui!!!

So I know that I'm overpacking but I tend to this always. Well I want to be more efficient on this trip. Can you help me narrow down what to take. So I have

4 pair of shorts (2 colored denim and 2 dressier khaki shorts)

2 maxi dresses

1 skirt

2 strapless jersey dresses (stop right above knee) one will be used for anniversary dinner

4 T-shirts

4 Tank Tops, 2 shirts (tank top style but they are actually tops)

couple pair of flip flops for beach, 2 pair of wedges, 1 pair of tennis shoes for hiking

5 swim suits and 3 coverup

2 pair of ankle socks and 10 pair of undies, 4 bras

Is this too much????

Re: Help me pack..6 nights in Maui!!!

  • The clothes look okay. I would bring less undies, bras, and swim suits, but those don't take up much room anyways. Have fun!
  • In my opinion that way to much.

We just spent 7 night in St. Lucia and this is all I had packed (as far as clothing that is).

three sundresses (I only wore them for dinners and then promptly changed back into shorts)

one bra (I didn't need it though as my sundresses are bra top and when I was wearing a tank I always just wore my bikini top)

    three shorts

    two tank tops

two pairs undies (easy to wash out in the sink)

    two pairs socks

cover up (also doubled as a sun dress)

2 tankini tops (also doubled as tank tops)

2 bikinis (bottoms can double as undies as long as they aren't wet)

    white slip ons

    sneakers

    flip flops

I have learned that the tub and or sink makes a great washing machine :) I was determined to do carry on only which technically we did but the airline nabbed my bag and said it was to big but my husbands was fine (yeah, ok, not likely since they are identical bags). We later found out the flight was over booked and they didn't have enough room for everyones carry one (my bag is bright pink and easily noticed so I think that's how/why it got singled out).

  • That seems like way to much IMO. I always seem to wear about half of what I pack for beach vacations. I would take:

    2 pair of shorts

    1 maxi dress

    2 strapless jersey dresses

    2 T-shirts

    3 Tank Tops

    1 pair flip flops

    1 tennie shoes

    1 wedges

    2 bathing suits

2 pair of ankle socks and 5 pair of undies, 2 bras

  • I'm always too hot in Maui to wear maxi dresses, but perhaps that's because we're there during the summer.

5 swimsuits?  I usually take 2, and we typically stay about 8 days.

I wouldn't take nearly as much underwear - you'll probably be in your swimsuit a lot more anyway, right?

    Cut down on the t-shirts.

I'd take 2 pairs of shorts.

Remember, there are lots of shops in Maui.  Whatever you don't pack you can always purchase as a souvie!

  • I've never been to Maui, but having *way* over packed for Tahiti I would say that you should cut out two pairs of shorts, one maxi dress, one jersey dress, at least two shirts, one pair of wedges, three of the swim suits, and two of the cover ups.

I would also add a cardigan or sweatshirt, because I tend to get chilly on the plane or if there is a lot of A/C (or if I get sunburn), and I'd toss in a pair of PJ shorts that double as a cover up in a pinch.  :)

I always over pack with underwear because I don't want the hassle of scrubbing them out in the sink/tub for a week long trip.

  • I am a fan of lots of undies on beach vacations. If you go to the pool mid day, I want a clear pair of undies.

  • If you are going up to Haleakala, you will need layers.  It gets cold up 14k feet.

This. Bring one pair of jeans, a sweatshirt, and maybe a jacket/coat that can pack compactly. It was SO cold up there!!

  • We took an extra blanket/comforter from our room to Haleakala too!!!
