Spain- Do they have this in Spain?
My BFF's family is hosting a foreign exchange student, and her family is coming in for a visit this week. Her mother is an excellent cook, and will be making a huge Spanish feast for us.
We would like to bring them a thank you gift, and wanted to know if they have Nutella and/or Biscoff spread in Spain? If they don't, we might buy some for them.
She also has a younger 12yo sister so for her, maybe an American Eagle shirt?
We want to give them something uniquely US/Cincinnati....
Re: Spain- Do they have this in Spain?
Nutella is very easily found here in Spain. Biscoff/"Speculoos" spread I haven't seen, but the cookies are easily found.
I'm not sure if American Eagle has stores in Spain but I've seen Hollister. Brands are big, so an American Eagle shirt or, if you want to really score, hit the outlets and get a Tommy Hilfiger or other "American" brand name shirt.
Do you have a really good chocolate shop nearby? Maybe a box of local chocolates would be a good idea.
Ok thank you! Biscoff spread just came here not too long ago. MAYBE I'll pick them up. I do have a box of local chocolates on my list.
I'll look for an American Eagle t-shirt for her sister. Thank you!!!
I think since Nutella and Biscoff spread are both european, you might do better looking for something uniquely OH/USA as well as something that's very easy to stow in luggage (light and small).
Typical generic gifts here would be flowers, wine, or chocolates.
Hope this is a help
Prepare yourself to eat! What part of Spain is the family from?
Between OP's blog and your mention of Fluff I'm now:
1. Very hungry
2. Very homesick
Can you get fluff outside New England?
You are from Cincy?
Get them Buckeyes, obviously!
Jeni's ice cream is pretty unique but for obvious reasons doesn't travel well. Cheryl's cookies would be another treat that has some Ohio relationship. Maple sugar, syrup or candies (especially from Ohio trees) could be another potential treat.
(And on to the unsolicited advice) If she is making a Spanish feast for you, the Jungle Jim's near you will have some of what she is looking for most likely, but their Spanish section isn't huge. There are some cured meats and reasonable spices, as well as some Spanish cheeses.
That's what I was going to suggest too!
Mmmm....I need some chocolate now....
We have pancakes here. They're dessert!
Thanks everyone so much!
I did end up buying her 12yo sister some American Eagle shirts. For her parents, I am buying some local chocolates (Esther Price, manufactured in Dayton).
Buckeyes- I can't believe I didn't think of that! I will make that this morning! Thank you!
And thanks for everyone's suggestions!!!
Nutella can be easily found. Not sure what Biscoff is though?
Maybe a box of assorted spices from a local spice store (a la Penzies spices) or something from a speciality cooking store (like the olive oil/vinegar place where you customize your flavor). As an American living in Spain I always bring back lots of baking/cooking stuff from the US that I can't find here.
I know GAP, Abercrombie, Hollister are popular with the young kids. I am sure American Eagle has similar stuff right?...I am not up on what those stores sell exactly.
Is that Marshmellow Fluff? If so, you can find it at El Corte Ingles in the gourmet food section...along with Hershey's chocolate syrup ;-)
DON'T YOU GO TORTURING ME WITH YOUR BIG CITY SPAIN DELICACIES.
Our local corte ingles supermarkets are smaller than they should be. However, that doesn't stop me from maniacally searching every row for foods from home. You've given me hope
If you want I will send you a jar or two. How do you eat it? I have only used it when baking when I was living in the US.
No worries, the craving isn't that terribly bad yet!
As for how to eat it, it's best as a classic Fluffernutter sandwich. Instead of the jelly in a PB&J, use fluff. Mmmmmmm.
