I am a veteran wife, hope I am welcome here. I've been looking for a forum for veterans spouses, but have come up empty. I just need someplace to vent. We have been dealing with so much lately and it is getting to be too much. The number one problem is dh and his job search. He is a great person, a hard worker and dedicated. I'm tired of him being told he has a job but then the company retracting it. He had another promising interview today (corporate of the company called him 3 times this week, excited for his interview). Was told the same thing, and then nothing. I'm so tired of it. Since leaving the military he has gone through the police academy and hasn't found anything with that. It is just so frustrating for both of us. Sorry to vent, but it is hard. Like I said, I hope I am welcome here. Thanks.
Re: Veteran wife welcome?
I changed my name
Did he just get out? DH will be ETSing in about 6 months and I am very nervous, his most promising and credible job offer is in a state I don't want to move to.
I don't have any answers. Vent away, though. We could always use more posters here.
Hi and welcome! I'm a vet wife too. E will have been out for 3 years in August.
It took E about 4 months to find a job after he got out. He was really fortunate to get a job with a company that hires a lot of veterans. He's not totally happy though so he is going to school with the GI bill.
GL to your H, hopefully he finds something soon!
Hi and welcome. I'm sorry about your H's job issues. Has he tried contacting the local veteran's associations? They have ways of helping. Our local vet groups have frequent job fairs as well as other programs such as an electrician's apprentice program with the local tech school and union, a program with the local police department, a program with the local port's authority and the local teamster's union. There are all sorts of other programs and web sites out there to help vets find jobs.
Did he have any type of clearance when he was in the military? He can check the net for clearance jobs as well. There are several sites out there for that and other government jobs. It takes a bit of work on the computer, but it can be well worth it.
OP, Law Enforcement is hard to break into right now with all the budget problems. I will say that Minnesota LOVES guys with prior Mil service for their cops/deputies.
Best of luck to you and your family. Job Searching SUCKS!
