DH is attending a conference and I'm tagging along. We'll be there for about three days before we head to his mom's house. DH's boss says it's a great place and he's been there before but I'm reading TripAdvisor and am a little concerned about the food and stay. Anyone have any experience? Or maybe recommendations outside the resort itself for meals and such?
I should have done Vegas instead. But I really don't want to know how much DH actually lost at the tables last week. Or how much the room cost. At least that part would be tax deductible, right?
Thanks.
Re: Longboat Key Florida
Somebody posted the same question below. I'll check out those responses. We'll be heading out in just over two weeks so the timing matches right up. But if anyone wants to add suggestions, advice or warnings please feel free.
I just stayed there in Oct and loved it. Where are you staying? Its mostly houses and golfing on Longboat (we had rented a waterfront one) but you are a close drive to Anna Maria Island and St. Armands Circle. I recall seeing one really nice resort and I think it was gated. There are a ton of restaurants and shops in SAC. Definitely go to Columbia Restaurant! SO good.
Marina Jacks at the marina in Sarasota is good and a great atmosphere. The Beach House on Anna Maria was fun to sit outside and eat on the beach. Blue Dolphin on Longboat had a good breakfast. And check out the The Lido Key Tiki Bar at the Ritz (its real close to the circle).
I might have been the one who posted earlier. We just got back from Longboat for Spring Break. Where are you staying?
We only ate out a few times (with 3 young kids it's more enjoyable not to eat out with them most times) but had fairly good meals when we did. We went to the Beach House in Bradenton for lunch one day and it was good. We went to the Dry Dock Cafe on Longboat for dinner and both DH and I thought it was good. There was a REALLY long wait (1 1/2 hrs) and they don't take reservations. We ended up eating at the bar and only had to wait about 10 minutes. We also got takeout from the Lazy Lobster and it was pretty good.
St. Armands has a ton of restaurants but we didn't eat at them. We got the girls ice cream from Olaf's Creamery and they loved it but that was the extent of our eating at St. Armands.
DH's parents stayed an extra day and got a room at the Hilton after we left our condo. We had a late flight and hung out there for a day. We had lunch at the pool restaurant. I would not recommend going there. The food really was not good at all.
It's a fairly quiet island. There's really not much in the way of nightlife if that's what you're looking for.
