Off the pill & greasy hair??

I have never had any issues with my hair being oily and now it's out of control. I can wash my hair in the AM and by the time noon rolls around, it's completely greasy. And not just the scalp, it's greasy ALL OVER. My hair is also falling out by the handfuls.

I've tried different shampoos, apple cider vinegar, baking soda, dry shampoo and nothing is helping.

I've been off the pill since October and from doing a little research it seems like it could be a side effect from my hormones being all over the place. Has anyone had this side effect from getting off the pill? How long did it last? And any suggestions to fix it?

Re: Off the pill & greasy hair??

  • Oily scalp can definitely be the result of hormonal changes.

I developed an oily scalp about 3 years ago and it's no fun. I've tried a bunch of things but the only thing that really works for me is Biolage Anti-Dandruff shampoo with Zinc. Works like magic. I also use a clarifying shampoo at least twice a week to get rid of the build-up.

  • Thank you for posting this! I went off of the pill in December and my hair has been ridiculously oily. I can't wait for my hormones to go back to normal. I tried baking soda and vinegar rinses and dry shampoo. Neither one has been working.

I did an at home facial last weekend and tried it on my hair. It was one medium banana mashed, 2 TBSP honey, and 2 TBSP plain yogurt. Put on for 10-15 minutes then wash. It didn't do anything for my face, but it made my hair less greasy for about half a week.

I'm still trying to find something that will work long-term too.

  • I've been off the pill since january and I noticed the same thing (my skin too!) I still only wash my hair twice a week but I am having to use more dry shampoo. The good part is that lately it seems to be getting a bit better. But yeah, I noticed more oilyness too.
  • You guys, get the Biolage shampoo, seriously, it's amazing. My hair was so bad that I wouldn't even leave the house and now it's completely under control.
