need rec - spf 30+ facial moisturizer

Hi -  I just bought Neutrogena Face shield SPF 70 for face and I hate it.  It make my face look horrible - I can't put makeup over it and it rubs off. Further, it causes little white patches on my face and settles into my crows feet.

Previous to this I used a tube of stuff from a dermatologist. It was $35, a bit on the expensive side for me.

Can anyone recommend their facial moisturizer that is:

  • SPF 30+
  • Made in the USA
  • Can be used under makeup
  • Is reasonably priced

 Thanks!

Re: need rec - spf 30+ facial moisturizer

  • For a while I used Cerave AM, which has spf 30, and I still use it on the occasional days when I don't wear makeup.  It's okay.  It doesn't leave white spots or settle into my crows feet, and it moisturizes well, but I'm not crazy about the way it smells.
  • My derm recommended CeraVe spf30 as well, but I felt it was too heavy on my combination skin. I eventually stopped using it. Someone on here did recommend Cetaphil's Oil-Absorbing moisturizer and that has spf30. I did buy it, but haven't tried it long enough to write a review. May be worth a shot though!
  • Elta MD SPF 41 is AMAZING!  It is super light and has a slight tint -- nothing dramatic, just enough to counteract any whiteness that a typical sunscreen leaves behind.  This is a physical sunblock, not a chemical one, so it's safer. Physical sunblocks are more associated with the "white face" look, but because of the tint, it counteracts that. I am super, super fair skinned, and this does not at all look orange on me...at all! In fact, it blends quite nicely.

The one thing is, it's not a moisturizer.  However, I put on my moisturizer, let it soak in for five minutes, then put this on top.   It evens out the skin tone and is so light that it almost feels like a mousse-like cream.

I cannot speak highly enough for this sunblock.  It's really fantastic. I don't even have to wear foundation because it makes my skin look so nice.  It never melts or becomes greasy, and it never dries out my skin. And it doesn't ball up under makeup if I do choose to wear it. What more can I say?  It's the best!

  • Elta sounds Perfect!  Thanks Dancer! I am off to the dermstore!
  • I like DDF's oil free lightweight, spf 45.

I just started using Josie Maran's spf 40.  It does have a slight scent, but it disappears immediately once it's on.
