DC hotel recs

My husband and I are traveling to DC from 4/28-5/5.  Flight is booked (DCA) but we are looking for hotels.  I wanted to stay close to the mall area but its super pricey.  Are there any areas close to DC with metro access that you can reccomend?  I was thinking maybe Alexandria because they have some historial sites there too.  Hopefully for no more than $125 per night.  It is our first time there and we will be sightseeing.  Thank you!

Re: DC hotel recs

  • I don't have specific hotel recs since I live in the area, but I would stay in Alexandria if I were you.  There are a lot of nice shops and restaurants there, and it's easy Metro access between DC and to DCA (only a few stops from the airport).

  • There are some nice hotels with decent rates in the Foggy Bottom area (which is great, close-ish to Georgetown and the Foggy Bottom metro on the blue/orange lines).  The Hotel Lombardy on Pennsylvania is an older hotel but clean and I've gotten great rates there (in the 120/night range).  There is also a Doubletree Suites on New Hampshire Ave - further from the metro (but still walking distance to the metro and Georgetown if you're an ok walker) and closer to Dupont Circle.  I lived in that neighborhood in college, and those two places are where family and friends would stay to visit me.
  • This is where we stayed http://arlington.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/index.jsp?null
It was perfect for us, really close to the metro (Rosslyn) & only $99/night when we were there in Aug. 2010 - I know there prices change depending on whats going on in DC at the time.
  • There is a Holiday Inn in Rosslyn (Arlington) that is near the metro. You could also stay in Ballston (also Arlington). There is a Holiday Inn and a Westin.
