Istanbul restaurant recs?
Dh and I are going this weekend and want to hear the Nesties restaurant recommendations!! We are staying in the Sultanhamet neighborhood...if that makes a difference.
Re: Istanbul restaurant recs?
I don't remember the names of any of the restaurants I ate at, but make sure you eat FRESH FISH while you're there. Mmmmmmmmm.
The Sultanhamet is a great area to stay, by the way.
And now I am remembering how bummed I was to realize that Istanbul is a far, expensive flight from Paris at the height of summer. I just had to scrap plans to meet up with a friend there once I realized this. Enjoy it.
Oooh, i like talking about food!
Get a fresh fish sandwich from the sellers along the river. Good for a quick, tasty, and cheap lunch. Especially right when you get off the ferry.
For a cup of tea or coffee (I loved the apple tea, even though it's only for tourists), there's an outdoor cafe called Pierre Loti at the top of the cable car you can ride in the Eyup district. Good view of the city from there.
The Beyoglu neighborhood is a great place to walk around at night. Lots of life. And there are restaurants lining the smaller side streets. Everyone sitting outside.
If you're looking for something chic, we went to a great restaurant on the top floor of some swanky hotel (sorry, can't remember the name). but it was full of a lot of internationals, mainly Americans, so not really a cultural experience.
now you got me thinking about our honeymoon there a couple years ago... ::gazes off into the distance::
Ooh! We just had Turkish food for lunch, and I was telling my colleague that Turkey was my favorite trip in terms of food. So much yummy stuff!
My restaurant experiences are at the end of my trip recap:
