Poison ivy on face...

DH got some poison ivy on his face. Any ideas or medicine suggestions to help heal his face quickly?

Re: Poison ivy on face...

  • At the grocery store, in the laundry detergent isle there is an old bar soap called Fels Naptha. You can google it. I'm very allergic to poison ivy and using a little bit of this soap on the area will take away the itching for at least four hours. It also helps to dry it out. If you think it got it on any of his clothes, you can put some shavings of fels naptha in your laundry deterget too.

Poor guy... hope he heals up quick!

ETA: my doc is the one that introduced me to this miracle soap

  • Cortisone cream helps me more than anything else.  (Prescription preferably, but even OTC will help.)
  • If it's bad, I'd recommend he go see the doctor.  He may need a steroid cream/oral steroids to heal up better with less scarring.  Hope he feels better soon!  Make sure you wash all his clothing and your sheets so you don't get it!
  • I had a bad case of poison ivy on my face.  It was bad because it was close to one eye. For that reason I was on oral prednisone (a steroid). As a pharmacist, I want to caution you against using a topical steroid on his face.  If he does he should go with a low potency.  The skin on your face is thinner and using a high potency steroid on it can cause it to breakdown and look even worse than the poison ivy probably looks.  I've even heard of people with stretch mark type marks on their face from using the higher strength creams.
