cmeon, TBM and other fabric dye-ers

Is dye-ers even a word?  Well, it is now.

So I am struggling in my search to find colors of clip dotted swiss fabric and thought I might try my hand at dying some.  I know y'all have talked about which brands of dyes you prefer, but I cannot remember.

Re: cmeon, TBM and other fabric dye-ers

  • I've had lots of good experiences with Dylon- I get them at Joann's. I would love to try pigment dying so I have an even wider range of colors- but, Dylon has a decent range. They go on sale pretty often, and I stock up then- but, they're only $3 a pack at regular price.

If you want colored fabric + colored dots, just make sure the thread used to make the dots is cotton. Polyester *may* accept some Dylon, but, probably not, and definitely not to the degree the cotton backing will.

I've been really happy with their customer service.  We dip-dyed 700 tie dye tshirts for school and they were great about all my random questions.  The dye we used was vibrant.

This would be more source for pigment dying- I wish I could find a local source for Procion. Amazon has a few sellers now- but, they tend to jack the price up.

I forgot to mention that Dylon needs salt- lots and lots of salt. I have a bunch of different salts on hand for my cooking/baking needs, but, have a canister of non-ionized table salt specifically for dye. I also use dollar store buckets and plastic spoons- but, don't do dollar store gloves. I learned the hard way. :)
