Somebody give me a kick in the butt

I have been a very bad runner lately, queen of excuses. Several times I have even made it as far as getting dressed in my running clothes and putting the Bob in the car and I still didn't follow through with running. For my own well-being, I need to get my act together and get on a regular running schedule.

Have no mercy, just a swift kick in the butt please!

  • Don't give yourself a bad time woman!!! You are not the queen of excuses AT ALL!!! Tell yourself you are going to go out there and run for 15 minutes... that's it! I bet after 15 you'll do more!

I only ran five times in March. And its not like I was lifting or spinning or something instead. I was sitting in my recliner watching Simpson's reruns or something.

  • Ditto Joenail, just tell yourself you'll get out there for 10-15 minutes tops. This helps me get out the door.

I also try to focus on how I feel when I'm done and that helps me get started.

I am pretty sure you had a fairly rough month, cut yourself some slack!  Ditto Joenali though, just do 15 minutes and see where it goes.

  • Ditto everyone else. 20 minutes - Even if you have to run/walk. Just do it. You'll thank yourself in the coming months.

  • I don't think you need a kick in the butt.  I think you need to cut yourself a whole bunch of slack.  You have had a stressful year and you're feeling it.  So what if you don't run for a while?  Take a walk instead.  Or play with your baby. Or go shopping.  Or just watch Simpsons. Smile

Yes, regular running can help you relieve stress, but if running is going to cause you stress, it's not really worth it.  Stop beating yourself up.

You are way too easy on me.

It is a catch-22. It stresses me out to fit in running, but it stresses me out not to run.

I know. Smile But I also know that the only person who can make you want to do it is you...and the time for that might not be right now.  What good is doing it if you're not going to enjoy it, kwim?

  • Umm.  Seriously?  I think you should be kicking the rest of us in the butt!  I'm amazed you're running with everything else you have going on right now.  If you feel like running, go for it.  If not, don't stress out about it (especially if you're having a hard time breathing while you're running!!!).  Take a break if you need it.  Running will always be here.  In the meantime, take it easy on yourself!  If you find yourself dressed and ready to go but decide not to run, maybe just go for a nice walk instead.  Anything is better than nothing; but right now, nothing sounds like it might be OK.
  • I can't say I would find fault with you at all for wanting to hang out and watch Simpsons reruns right now, given everything you've got going on...but I agree with everyone else.  Try getting out there for 15-20 mins and I bet you'll end up going a little further. It'll definitely benefit you, both short term and long term.

And most importantly-hang in there!  I'm keeping all possible appendages crossed that your test results come back with good news.

Me too. I'd say give yourself a break for not running that much lately, especially with all of this on your plate. E-Hugs.

  • We all have down days. Get out there and go run, you'll feel better. *hugs*

  • I'm locked in for running for today. I bought a new running skirt during lunch. If that doesn't make me run tonight, I don't know what will. :-)

  • I agree with the others that you should give yourself a break. But if getting out for a run will make you feel physically and mentally better, I'd try to get out even for just a mile. Or a brisk walk.

And just wanted to add that you are most definitely in my thoughts.

  • Ditto everyone else. Don't be so hard on yourself, and hope you have some good test results!
