Dying hair red to brown, issues?
I had my hair bleached and dyed red (from brown) and redyed it a darker red brown the 2nd time bc I didn't want to bleach my hair so often and it was growing out too fast. My hair is now very orange. I'm considering dying it back to a very dark brown at home (partially bc I spent so much money the last few times). Does anyone foresee any issues I might have or do you think I'm safe to go ahead with this? I used to dye it at home only and switched to the salon in the last few years.
Re: Dying hair red to brown, issues?
I don't see any problems and I dye my hair at home all the time. The only thing I will tell you is to expect red/orange tints to your hair. Red is the hardest color to keep, and the hardest to get rid of. I dyed my hair black underneath and the red is still coming through.
Best advice I can give you in dyeing your hair often: Deep condition 2/3 times a week, always use a heat protectant and a leave-in conditioner before you dry and style your hair. (I like neutrogena's new one in the orange bottle, can't remember the name though) I would also try not to shampoo every day. I used to be one of the girls that HATED the thought of that b/c I shower every morning or I feel gross. Lately though, I shampoo every other day, and days that I don't I just condition. My hair is starting to feel much healthier too.
I hope this helps, and good luck!
EDIT: I also recommend using ION Brilliance dyes, you can get them at Sally's Beauty Supply.
thank you!
