I have a half scheduled at the end of this month. Great. I was planning on cutting back my running to a maintenance level after that, about 3m- 3x a week. My running partner wants me to go to Chicago and do the RnR half with her this July. I love the idea of a destination run, and I think if she was willing to share a room with me I might be able to swing the cost. But long runs in the FL summer just sounds shitty to me. We were out yesterday doing bridge work and an 8 mile run at 830 and it was hit and humid. I just can't decide what I want more- to go to Chicago for a run, or avoid heat stroke.

Re: Am I being a wuss?
You are not being a wuss. I'm in NC and I can't even imagine what you will have to run through this summer.
The heat and humidity here are unbearable to run long distance through the summer here unless you go before light or after dark.
I'd still probably be tempted to try and make it happen though.
I did RNR Chicago in 2010 and it was effing miserable. It was incredibly humid and hot, the course wasn't well-supported, and the last 2-3 miles were in brutal full sun.
Don't do it. Pick another destination race that's cooler.
