Ndr: computer virus

Re: Ndr: computer virus

  • Actually no.  It can come from corrupted email attachments, clicking on random popups, any torrenting programs (especially free ones, Limewire is horrible). Free downloads are also easily corrupted which is why porn is a common one.

Good porn (and movie, TV show, etc.) sites will usually stream straight from the hosts server so that you aren't actually downloading the material.

Now the real question is, what were you watching?

  • Haha!

The only reason I suspected is because I haven't done anything weird lately. I never use lime wire or anything. Except I do remember clicking on one bad link that brought up a crazy pop up. I was searching for something odd work related (trying to find contact info for a domain we wanted to buy). So now that I think of it, that was prob it.

'm still giving DH the side eye though.

  • No, people get viruses here at work sometimes (I've gotten one on my computer), and it's not from porn.  Since FB, blogs, pinterest, pretty much all social media (except for TN) has been blocked at work, viruses have been less frequent.

  • You can pick them up just about anywhere. I have a Mac too, but I'm always pretty cautious at work when nesting. I only click links of people who I recognize, never those spammy ones that just don't look right.

My H, however, throws caution to the wind and runs no virus software. At least he knows how to fix computers!

  • Basically if you access the internet in anyway, you are prone to viruses, trojans, spyware, key loggers, malware, etc.

Even on my mac I run virus protection, even though it is less likely to get infected on a mac, it is still possible.  It is less likely because people don't write viruses, etc for mac OS because there is more of a population on Windows.  Having a mac does not make you immune to everything.

You should be able to find a local computer guy that will clean the computer out, probably tell you the source of the virus, and install virus protection. I use Kaspersky (sp?) and have been happy with it.  Don't go with Norton or Mcafee they are about useless.

  • Some people believe they get viruses from Facebook.

  • My DH knows how to fix PCs and is an Anal Andy about using virus software.  We use Avast and just renew the free version every time it runs out.

  • I just got my computer back from our computer guy. I had a virus and some spyware crap going on. It had zero to do with looking at porn but my DH still likes to tease me about it. I have no idea where the virus and spyware came from and I try to be really careful about what kind of links I click on.
