Cooper River Ladies

How did you do?  Did you guys get messed up at all by the many miscues they experience?

I didn't other than minor annoyance.  Ran a solid race, had a good time, and then read the newspaper comments about the chaos.

We stayed in Mt. Pleasant so it wasn't a huge deal to us but it sounds like some people had an awful time.

Hope you all did well!

Re: Cooper River Ladies

  • I survived and had a blast!  I have to admit going without fuel or water for so long because of the delay did not help.  Since this race fell on my 6-mile long day for half training, I'd never run longer than 5 miles and I ran out of steam at mile 5.  I had also dressed for it to be 10 degrees cooler and the delay definitely didn't help "cool it off" any.  LOL   Definitely rookie mistake!

Getting there was fine though.  My friend dropped me off in Mt. Pleasant around 6:45 and I had plenty of time to relax and get ready.  I felt so sorry for those people who were still pouring off the buses at 8.  I would've been a nervous wreck.

I ran it all and that was my goal.  Thrilled to death I survived the obstacles of the day.  My favorite part was running off the bridge to all the spectators cheering us on.  They had so much energy and I loved the little kids wanting high-faves.

I felt great the entire race but coming off the bridge I definitely lost a little steam.

The spectators were awesome and that helped me push for the last 1.5 miles after the bridge.

That was when I started feeling warm too and there was no more wind to cool us off.  All in all, I had a great time.

  • I had the time of my life! This was my first 10k and first ever BIG race like this so I had no idea what to expect. I had no issues getting there but it was kinda rough standing there for hours waiting to go. I was in the run/walk category and really suprised myself w how much I was able to run! I definitely will run it next year & hopefully be able to run the whole thing!

Awesome!  I'll run it again too.  Like I said, I only noticed the delay and the fact that they don't hand you water at the finish.  That was strange but my brother in law was waiting for my sister in law and I and had gotten water for us which we shared.

If not, I would have been upset about fighting the crowd to get water.  I really had fun though!

  • Great runs, ladies!

I definitely would run it again.  It is just amazing.

  • Oh now I forgot about the water situation. Your right! That was a nightmare!! We kept walking everywhere to find it. After about 20 minutes, we fought the crowd to the tents to get some. That part could've been better organized.  But oh well! :-)
