Scale WTF

I'm hoping you guys can offer your insight:

I'm actively trying to reach my goal by the end of the month and I'm working with a nutirtionist and a trainer getting in 9 workouts in 6 days (sunday's as rest).

Last week I weighed in on Monday I was down 10lbs (to 180lbs).  I weighed in again this morning and I was up 11 (to 191) lbs from last week (with 9 workouts and keeping in my 1400 calories a day).  These weigh in's were the same time in the morning BEFORE bootcamp

I went to bootcamp, came home and showered and weighed again for comparison and I was down 9lbs from last week (to 171)

This scale is about 2 years old. I can't figure out how the numbers can be this different?

Thoughts?

Re: Scale WTF

  • Some of it could be scale inaccuracy and some of it could be water weight fluctuations. I weigh myself every day so that I can keep better track of fluctuations that are clearly water weight/bloating/dehydration. On the other hand, you're saying that you weighed 20 lbs less after today's bootcamp than before? 5 lbs could have been water weight (heavy sweating in the workout), but 20 lbs sounds like a bad scale. Is it a digital scale? If so, try checking the batteries.
  • Also, was one of the digital scales on a rug/carpet?  They told me at the gym when the scale was in a different location than normal that it could affect it.

  • I think it's your scale also. Change the batteries or get a new one.

  • I'd get a new scale. And I'd eat more than 1400 calories.

I was thinking it was the scale.  It read different numbers in the bathroom, than it did in the hallway (hard wood), than it did on the rug than it did in the kitchen.

    This, exactly.

  • Working out 9 times a week and only eating 1400 calories is not going to do anything beneficial.  And why are you weighing yourself so obsessively?

What exactly are you trying to do?
