Some of my CDs are starting to get odorous. Not terrible, but I have super smelling ability and I noticed it yesterday. Best remedy for a front loading machine?
Re: Off topic-CD stinkies
Stinkies as in barnyard?
Try tricking your machine into adding more water by throwing in wet towels to your initial load. Barnyward stink also means you're not using enough detergent, so up the amount you're putting in the machine.
CD philosophical - I think people strip their cds way more often than they need to. It might initially solve the problem, but if the routine isn't changed you'll go right back to having the stinkies. Plus, it's a lot of work.

ooooh, ammonia is too much detergent. You'll want to do a blue dawn strip (see the cd board FAQs found at the top of the page), or a fish ammonia remover strip (my preferred method). Then once they're clean, reduce down the amount of detergent used.
If you will allow me to butt in for a moment:
If absorbancy is an issue, what am I doing wrong? Is there a liner type that's more absorbent?
Is the fit right on the cds? Are you fully unsnapped, etc.?
If you are, you may want to consider putting a bamboo or hemp doubler into your cds.
I am sorry but barnyard smelly is making me laugh
Like, chicken poop smell..or pigshit,or cow patties?
Like "take a whiff of that country air" smell.
Knowing the smell of all of this, it's more herbivore (cow/horse) than anything. ::gags thinking about pigshit::
I live in farm country..I am not sure I would find it offensive or would even be able to distinguish it. Oh, gosh. I would have THE barnyard butt baby wouldn't I?
I have hard water and need more detergent to get anything clean than those in areas with soft water. I read a very interesting article once before on what exactly makes detergents clean and why you need more/less in certain situations.

Do you notice a difference in the air when they first spread the manure on the fields? That's what the smell reminds me of.
I like it..I know...I know.
Lots of my memories are tied to scent and I use scent to hold onto them.
The fit seems fine. I'm not sure what your 2nd question means, though.
I'm wondering if she's holding it. I'll change her after 3 hours and she'll be dry, but 30 min later and her pants are soaked. I'll try out some new doublers. Thanks!
I use Tide Free, I have seen a few diaper sites recommend it. I read a great article a while back that said most of us with hard water can't really use the boutique detergents because they won't get the diapers clean enough, I don't know how much truth there is to that though.
We haven't had any problems with stink since we switched to using soap nuts. Plus, it works out to be cheaper. I'm a huge fan of them in general.
:oD Sorry! I meant, are the rise snaps (all the snaps on the front) fully unsnapped so that the diaper is at the biggest size?
OH! That makes sense now.
