Trisuit Newbie Qs

I'm shopping for tri suits, & I have a few questions for the pros.

1. I feel like I want a two piece if for no other reason than easier bathroom breaks. Is there a reason I should more seriously consider a one piece?

2. My tri in June is a sprint, & the swim is in a pool - would a tri suit be ok in a chlorinated pool? My second in July is an open water Olympic.

3. As a first timer, is it ridiculous for me to wear a tri suit in the first place? If so, what would you suggest?

Any and all suggestions are welcome :). I feel like tris are a whole new ball game when it comes to equipment.

One pieces are really comfortable. I don't do tris, but I love my cycling skinsuits.

    2. My tri in June is a sprint, & the swim is in a pool - would a tri suit be ok in a chlorinated pool? My second in July is an open water Olympic. Sure, why not? It's like a bathing suit (sort of).

    3. As a first timer, is it ridiculous for me to wear a tri suit in the first place? If so, what would you suggest? Nope, wear whatever is comfortable!

    1. I feel like I want a two piece if for no other reason than easier bathroom breaks. Is there a reason I should more seriously consider a one piece? I have a long torso and find that tight fitting tops tend to ride up on me and I haven't found a tri top I like.  I have a one piece which I like (no issues with bathroom breaks).  I've also worn tri shorts & sports bra (with a loose top for the bike/run).  My friend likes to race with a trip top & shorts.  Try some on and see what feels best to you.

    2. My tri in June is a sprint, & the swim is in a pool - would a tri suit be ok in a chlorinated pool? My second in July is an open water Olympic. Yep, it will be fine in a pool.  I recommend giving whatever you plan to wear a trial run either in the pool or open water.

    3. As a first timer, is it ridiculous for me to wear a tri suit in the first place? If so, what would you suggest?  Not at all.

Any and all suggestions are welcome :). I feel like tris are a whole new ball game when it comes to equipment.  Make sure you do some brick workouts where you bike and then run.  Don't try out any new gear (or food/drink) at the race.  Pick up some Body Glide to help prevent chafing.

    Good luck!!

    1. I feel like I want a two piece if for no other reason than easier bathroom breaks. Is there a reason I should more seriously consider a one piece?  I wear a 2 piece tri suit for this reason.  I couldn't imagine pulling up a wet tri suit during a bathroom break.

    2. My tri in June is a sprint, & the swim is in a pool - would a tri suit be ok in a chlorinated pool? My second in July is an open water Olympic.  It will be fine in a chlorinated pool.  It is just like a bathing suit.

  • You shouldn't have to use the bathroom for an Olympic or a sprint... IMO.
  • Thanks for all of the help!

I was concerned about the pool, because I had heard it could break down the felt/chamois in the short. I didn't hear that from a very credible source, though, so I'm glad to hear differently from all of you.

I would be really annoyed if I have to go to the bathroom during a race, but I wouldn't mind being prepared. Weird post-baby stuff.

I will go try a few on and see what feels comfy & what holds in my little low-tummy baby pooch the best ;). An extra body glide will make its way to the checkout as well!
