i got a check today with the following information on it:
Martell v Warnock Dodge (i bought my previous car from this dealership)
Settlement Administrator
the text reads as follows:
You are receiving the enclosed check because the Superior Court of New Jersey approved the class action settlement in Martell v. Warnock Dodge, Inc, et al. Docket No.: MRS-L-001085-09. You should have received a copy of the Notice of Class Action Settlement and Fairness Hearing several months ago.
i don't remember getting anything although it's entirely possible it ended up in the trash.
i do know the bank from which the check was issued. it's local to my business.
just want to make sure this is all legit.
Re: can any lawyer on here look up a class action lawsuit/settlement?
From what you've written, it sounds legit. New Jersey has some crazyass laws regulating car dealerships.
Google the name of the Settlement Administrator. If that looks legit, then call them to confirm.
Call the Morris County courthouse (973) 656-4000, ask for the law division, and give them that docket number (MRS is Morris County). They can tell you if its legit.
New Jersey courts are behind the times and dont have electronic filing, so its possible that there are no court documents on the internet, although it seems strange to me that there is NOTHING about this settlement online at all.
just called the courthouse. it's legit.
thanks!
