Breastfeeding: Teeth and Weaning (BR, obviously)
I think the title says it all.
1. Evie finally has teeth and she's not too bad with the biting. However, her teeth are just coming in. What are some things you did to prevent and stop biting?
2. I think we're going to start the weaning process when the doctor okays cow's milk but how did you cut down on the feedings?

Re: Breastfeeding: Teeth and Weaning (BR, obviously)
I don't know if I can be much help because Ash weaned himself around the same time his teeth started coming in. But I would tell him no and pull him off, he thought I was hilarious. I also read that you can tell them no and pull them into your breast, they will feel like they can't breathe and should stop, but again he thought I was funny, and I didn't like purposely trying to smother him. J tried to firmly tell him "No, don't bite Mommy", but again he thought it was funny.
He cut down his own feedings, he slowly started refusing them until we were down to only night feedings, and eventually nothing.

I don't know if it's because Evie is teething or what but I feel like she nurses more than she did a month ago. As of now, I feel like I'm never getting this girl off the bewb!
I was hoping she would self-wean but it doesn't seem likely.

1. Phoenix wasn't much of a biter, thank god, but the few times she did I think I just pulled away and told her not to bite in a sharp tone. Wasn't always easy because most of the time she laughed because she thought my reaction was funny, and it was really hard to keep a straight face with her.
2. I'm trying to remember how we did the weaning...honestly as soon as I got the go ahead for cow milk, it only took about a week or week and a half and I was completely done BFing. I think I started with 8oz of cow milk in the morning with breakfast. It tends to help fill them up quite a bit more, so the BF'ing in the day just got sparser automatically and since we did solid lunch/snacks, it just kind of naturally got phased out. The last thing to go as far as BFing goes for me, was the before bed feeding. After a few days of morning only cow milk, I added another 8oz of cow milk after dinner, and that pretty much sealed the deal on weaning, lol. I think one thing that helped too is that she always had a sippy cup of water available during the day, that she could get to herself whenever she was thirsty.
That's good news and what I was hoping to hear! LOL
As of now, during the day I keep a sippy cup of water for her to drink. I usually offer at the end of meals, as well. I thought that would help with keeping her "away" but it hasn't since the teeth have been coming in.
I think my biggest gripe is daytime feedings but if what worked for Phoenix can work for Evie, then that's good and will make the transition easy. I'm OK with the nighttime nursing for a little while longer if she can give me back my days.
As far as biting, she's really not bad, I just fear she'll get worse with it before the time to wean.

Samma pretty much self-weened, and I really didn't have any problems with the teeth because we were basically done by the time they finally came in.
As for the conversion to cow's milk, I think it took about the week going from 3/4 - 1/4 breastmilk-cowsmilk respectively for a few days, then 1/2 - 1/2, then 1/4 - 3/4. Sam had no issues with it and still loves her milk. She gets 8oz in the morning, 8oz with dinner, and then its 1 Fruitables cut with water for the day, and the rest of the time the cup is full of water.

Kyler has seven teeth now and has only bitten me twice, and that was just when his two top teeth were coming in. He did giggle when I told him NO though, I don't know why babies do that! I really don't know how to prevent it, to be honest. Since he only did it twice though, I'm going to assume it was accidental.
As far as weaning, he has started being super squirmy and gets distracted easily, so I've cut down on daytime nursings (on the weekends, since I pump at work) and I just nurse him now at night/overnight. Within two weeks, I went from pumping twice daily at work to just once at work, and now I don't pump at work at all. I still feel pretty full by the end of the day, but it's not unmanageable or particularly painful or anything. Just replacing a few nursings each day with milk instead should slowly tell your body to stop producing as much.
Evie hasn't bit me yet... but she gets close to doing it. I can feel her teeth so it feels a little sore when she pulls off. She's not doing it on purpose, so I don't do anything about it.
I think I'm just scared she'll chomp my nipple off. She went from zero teeth to 5 almost 6 teeth in a matter of a month. It's just a matter of adjustment.
Also, I'm trying to cut back the nursing today. It's pretty much the day from hell. I realized yesterday she was "begging" me almost every hour and a half to two.
Since she's been have meals and snack through out the day she was nursing 3-4 times a day... It's got to be because she's teething. .. I keep offering a sippy cup but she's just not having it.
