  • You definitely need to try kickboxing! It's the only thing I miss about my old gym. I loved it. You get to yell "haaaa" and grunt and stuff. It's a great stress reliever.
  • I would do the Body Blast.  If it is anything like what NYSC offers, it is awesome.  I've also done kickboxing in the past, but I always ended up with serious knee pain from the all the kicking.

  • This is the class description for Body Blast:

This high-powered, total body, conditioning workout set to music works all the major muscle groups of the body using some or all of the following: dumbbells, body bars, resistance tubing, the Resist-A-Ball, the Step platform and your own body weight. This workout will build your endurance and speed your metabolism for increased fat burning. All fitness levels welcome. Work at your own pace.

I envision it being sort of like Zumba but with props (step, weights, resistance bands, etc.).

  • They only offer kickboxing on Tuesday and body blast is on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

So I guess I could do kickboxing tonight and body blast on Thursday. Zumba is Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Is it better for me to take a variety of classes or to stick to one type?

  • I say mix it up if you're not too worn out -- variety is the spice of life!

  • Another vote for kickboxing! I miss my old gym. I feel all bad a** after I leave! It helps releive stress and back and shoulder tension! I say mixing up workouts is best, so you don't plateau your fitness goals.

Definitely mix it up. The programs are usually the same, so it'll give you more variety and you won't get bored doing the same ole thing every day. Plus, you'll work more/varied parts of your body. I use to do kickboxing on Tuesday and Thursdays, and then either spinning, body pump, or just the treadmill on the other days.

  • Thanks guys! I think I'm going to do kickboxing tonight and body blast on Thursday. I'm new to this whole working out thing, I've never belonged to a gym or done a workout routine outside of high school sport, so I'm feeling at a loss of what to do. My biggest thing is that I want to enjoy it or I'm just going to give up. I'm on week 14 of a workout routine right now!
