Did the most amazing relay race ever this weekend

I hope to have a race recap soon but I did a 12 person team 203 mile relay from Bastrop Texas to Houston Texas this weekend. All day and night. Saturday starting at 8:24 to Sunday at 3:30. No sleep. Lots of running. Lots of fun.

It was so wonderful. I ran 17 + miles in under 24 hours with 3 hours of sleep. Terrible terrible heat. 90+ degree weather. No shade. 4:30 run. The team work was so amazing. You saw people out there hitting you with water guns, soaking you with water, cheering you on, telling you the pain is worth it. Sadly I also saw 7 ambulances and 2 women pass out. Sad sad.

The night run was amazing. I ran through my neighborhood at 3:30 in the morning. 6.5 miles. Quiet. No one bothering you except a possum that I kicked. Oops.

6 hours later I ran another 6 + miles in terrible heat, out ran a train, ran into TERRIBLE traffic people everywhere because of Palm Sunday, had dogs chasing me to finally finish in an hour and 11 minutes.

To see the team band together under terrible terrible running conditions was amazing. To see runners pass you and scream you got this keep going. Only 100 + miles left was amazing.

We finally finished in 30 hours and 36 minutes. I'm still exhausted. I still can't believe we made it. If you are in Texas check out the Texas Independence Relay for next year. Definitely think about doing this relay race!

  • Great job! That's seriously awesome! Go you and go team!

And, not gonna lie, I almost spit out my drink at the possum line.

I did a Ragnar Relay in January and my 2nd leg was 12 miles from the Everglades to Key Largo in the dark. I was dreading it thinking that it was going to be so boring, but it was my favorite part of the whole thing! So relaxing and peaceful.

I'm so glad you had a nice time and enjoyed your race. It's definitely a memorable experience!
