Moms: Changing table, or no?
We're finally getting more serious about the nursery furniture, although L is being a pill about the crib, but that's a complaint for another day...however I've heard mixed reviews on getting a changing table. I'm not sure if I want to use up drawers in the dresser with my CD stash, so I figured a changing table with bins underneath would be my best bet. Even if we don't use it for long, the extra storage space would be nice. What are your all's thoughts?
Re: Moms: Changing table, or no?
normally I would say it's pointless. But for a CD stash, it might come in handy so that you don't use up space in the dresser.
we don't CD and I just have a contoured pad on top of her dresser with a small bin to hold diapers and wipes. I keep the big box of diapers in her closet.

Levi's dresser was custom made. It has a ledge around the top to snuggly hold the changing pad. When we are done using it as a changer, the top part can screw off and it'll be a flat dresser top. It also has 6 deep drawers, so I use the top left drawer to hold diapers/wipes. That drawer also has socks, white undershirts and a couple pair of big boy underwear.
I still change his diaper on there for every diaper change.
We have a "bureau" and "tall dresser" in her room and will be putting the changing pad on the bureau (you probably saw pictures of these pieces on FB). The bureau only has 3 drawers and at least the two 2 will be for our CDs. The bottom one will probably be extra diaper related stuff.
The tall dresser, as I call it, it still pretty spacious and has 5-6 drawers. She's also got a good size closet. So between those two things I think we're okay with not having the bureau for her clothes too.
we went the changing pad on top of a dresser route. A's room is really small but we had room for two smaller dressers...plus I have storage in the closets for extra clothes and bedding. I think if you have the room for a changing table it can be nice to have...esp with the CD stash. But if you have the space and budget for just another dresser I'd go with that as it will last longer.
Why is L being weird about the crib?
CRAFTY ME
my read shelf:
I am not brave enough to do this on a regular basis. Ada likes to pee the minute air hits her vajayjay. It's kind of comical. But we have to be ninja quick getting that new diaper on her. I have waterproof pads all over the place for nudie time.
I absolutely love ours. I realize that's not really the norm. We change her on it 100% of the time when we're at home. Also, she is SO happy when she's on it ... she "talks" and smiles the most when there. I don't know why, but I love it!
This is the one we have:
Also, her room is really small (two bedroom condo, where our master is gigantic and the 2nd bedroom is miniscule). She has an armoire and a chest of drawers, but there was no way we'd have room for a standard dresser/changing pad combo. Also, the drawers of the changing table are fantastic for storing diapers, wipes, first aid kit, CPR masks (yeah I know most people don't have that stuff, but still), powder, diaper cream, hand sanitizer, paci wipes ... etc. I can't imagine NOT having it.

We use it non-stop but their room is next to the living room so we always change them in there. We have all the CDs in three bins on the top shelf and the bottom has wetbags, prefolds, swim diapers, hemp, and extra boxes of wipes and a small pack of disposables. Of course, I have about a million diapers and two babies. You could probably easily fit a whole stash and accessories on one shelf and have another shelf for toy/carrier/whatever storage.
ETA: their dresser is next to the changing table (it is small) and we have the wipes up there. I think the cream is in the accessory box; we hardly ever use it.
Oh yes, it's fantastic!
We have this furniture (the tall 5 drawer dresser, the armoire and the crib):

*DROOL* I have eyed this furniture but unfortunately way out of our league at the moment.

That is hilarious!! If Suri had a pee issue like that I'd cordon off an area of the house, for diaper changing.
The one thing Suri used to do consistently was stinky poop on the way to daycare every single morning without fail. We'd get in the car, start on our way and there she went.

We have a changing pad on dresser... never used it. The cat claimed it as his bed. We change her where ever... bed/ floor/ pnp.
Like Kara, we use a contoured pad on top of the dresser. Our dresser is a bit taller which worried me at first, but it turns out that I LOVE the changing pad being higher up.
We have a small cabinet next to the dresser - the drawer holds all medicine, thermometers, diaper rash creams, petroleum jelly, lotion, rubbing alcohol, etc. and then inside there are two shelves that are loaded with wipes and diapers. We keep extras in the closet.
It was gifted to us by our parents ... I am SO grateful!
