What are you putting in your kids Easter basket?

Easter kind of snuck up on me this year.  I haven't even purchased dye for eggs yet let alone a basket.  I probably need to go to the store tomorrow before everything is picked over.

Re: What are you putting in your kids Easter basket?

  • Lots of books. And then I'm going to be super cheap and fill eggs up with the candy my parents put in the baskets this past weekend.  He's 3, so he doesn't need any more, and won't know the difference.

  • Not much as we are holding out on the good stuff (aka HFCS) until his first birthday a week later Smile

Probably a fun toy and a bunny.  We hope to do the Easter Egg Hunt this weekend as well though know he won't know much about it.

  • My mother in law does the easter baskets. It's usually candy and easter themed novelty toys. I love her.

  • We always do a book and a DVD (both Easter-related) and some treats.  I like to do healthier snacks instead of junk, so our baskets are a lot of Larabars, allergy-free snack bars and some "healthier" candy like Yummy Earth gummy bears, real licorice and some real chocolate.  Then I usually add one toy or thing they need (like DD needs new socks and a sun hat).

  • A mutant caterpillar, a bamboletta pocket doll, some eggs filled with jellybeans, and maybe some crayola colorworks stuff.
A big old middle finger to you, stupid Nest.
  • A pair of kids' binoculars, a mini flashlight, a plush peacock, a bunch of books, a "Kitten Party" DVD for our long road trip, candy (I'm not even sure what because my mom bought it).

I'm making an easter basket for the baby just for fun that has a teether and a couple of rattles.

  • 2 easter themed board books, and some goldfish (cheddar, not live). Maybe something else, dunno.  We're flying there so I don't want too much.
  • Disclaimer: I go overboard for Easter.  Jesus loves a little materialism for celebrating his Resurrection.

    Jackson:

    - a few Lego Sets

    - Phineas and Ferb Easter book

    - Angry Birds board game & t-shirt

    - Icee t-shirt (he loves Icees)

    - super soaker

    - discs for his nerf gun

    - Annie's Bunny fruit snacks

    - swimwear

    - a few new chapter books to read

    - new summer shoes

I think that's all for him... but there may be more.

    Scarlett

    - Easter touch n feel book

    - a few new Fancy Nancy books b/c she is obsessed

    - new swimwear/sunhats/coverups

    - new shoes

    - watering can

    - bubbles

    - Elmo eggs w/ change

    - Annies bunny fruit snacks

A sh!t ton of candy. He is risen and he wants Reese's eggs.
  • A movie (maybe something Easter themed, or maybe a Tinkerbelle movie), a book (probably a Pinkalicious book), Endangered Species chocolate bug bites, hair bows and maybe something My Little Pony related. My kid has been bitten by the girly bug hard lately.

We'll hide eggs out in the yard that are filled with Annie's bunny fruit snacks and dried strawberries.

  • We just do an egg hunt.  Each egg has .like 2 m&m's, or a penny, or something.

The first couple years we did more, but dude, we don't beleive in Jesus!  We don't celebrate Easter!  etc.

Also, when we do the egg hunt, the kids want to stop and eat each egg's contents as they find them.  So I only put a little bit in each egg.  There is no saving candy for later.

  • eclaires, it's supposed to be an Easter Basket. Not an easter Volkswagon Beetle.

  • My grandma bought one for P.  He grandpa bought 2 t-shirts to put in it, and I bought a couple board books.  Obviously he has no clue, but I thought it'd be fun to have some pictures of his first Easter basket, along with the pictures we have of him with the Easter bunny at the mall.

shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! I can't hear you and your rational statements.

Jesus and I believe in celebrating the Resurrection w/ pure materialism.

In all seriousness, I typically use the Easter baskets to be a bunch of stuff I'd be buying anyway (summer-y stuff/new shoes in particular b/c of when Easter falls) w/ a few fun gifts/treats thrown in.  I can't help myself, I have no self-restraint, and MH doesn't step in b/c we travel for Easter and I don't get to do my own egg hunt.  So I overcompensate.  I also overcompensate b/c my BFF growing up always had baskets like what I described and we got lame-o candy.

It's okay if you judge me though.  I judge myself if I'm being honest.

  • They each get a chocolate bunny, and the eggs we hide in the house have stickers in them.

  • nothing yet. It has been spring break and DH is traveling so I've had the kids 24-7.

I'm going get some candy and maybe some stuffed bunnies but nothing extravagant. They like getting seeds in their baskets too.
