My sister had a full body cast for her hip. If you want to talk to her or my dad about the experience -- let me know. I'm sure medicine has progressed since then.
Hope this story makes you smile.
When my sister had her cast my dad made her a scooter by putting a board on wheels. This way she could use her hands to get where she wanted. One day my sister is napping and suddenly stuffed animals start flying down the stairs. My sister somehow got out of her crib, onto her wheelie board and over to the baby gate at the top of the stairs. She was p!ssed my dad and her mom weren't with her so she started chucking stuffed animals down the stairs. Resourceful little brat!
Also, my sister did exceptionally well in school and the doctors attributed her excellent reading skills to extended crawling. There is a crawling/reading connection. Conversely kids who don't crawl a lot stand a chance to struggle in school

Re: LindsayB
Thank you so much for thinking of us. And I love that story. I'll tell Brice he has to get on the scooting.
It's funny because I just heard about the whole crawling = better reading thing a week or two ago at stroller size.
I have a teacher that I work with who has two daughters now (one was just born) with the congenital form of hip dysplasia. I am going to meet with her next week to chat, but if I still feel like I need someone to talk to who has been through it I will let you know. Thank you so much again.
Okay I gave my dad way too much credit! He didn't make it, it called a "Crawligator"! He said you MUST get one. My sister would hold on to the dog's tail and she'd take her everywhere around the house -- including to her bowl where they'd both have a snack.
Also, evidently Brooke Sheild's daughter had hip dysplasia and she has written extensively and encouraged research.
Here is a crawligator from google images -- I'm sure 40 years ago my sister's wasn't this cool looking.

That is awesome! I showed it to DH and then forgot to respond. If she ends up in the cast we will definitely be getting one of those.
I will have to do some googling to see what Brooke Sheilds has to say.
Thanks again!
