If you make your own hairclips...

I bought some alligator clips from etsy and I would like to make some clips for my daughter and my niece.  Do you use regular glue gun glue to attach the ribbon or fabric to the clip?  And what do you use to keep the ends from fraying?

Thanks!

I want to make ribbon covered clips with felt flowers on them.  I will sew the flowers to the ribbon.

Re: If you make your own hairclips...

  • I use either a glue gun or fabric glue depending on what type I'm making. And I heat seal with a lighter to keep the ribbon from fraying.

I just use a hot glue gun and heat seal with a lighter. :)

  • I seal ribbon with a wood burning tool. I use it to cut/ seal the ribbon. similar to this- got it at Micheals for like $6-7 with a coupon. I work on a cookie sheet from the dollar store so I can just lay the ribbon down and use the tip of this to cut and seal it at once

I attach the ribbon with fabri-tac, I don't have much luck with the glue gun glue on the metal clips.

and I line them with this to make them no slip. works the best of anything I have tried and is self adhesive, though I do add a dot of crazy glue to it just in case

I use fabric tac to line the clips and I use makeup sponges cut up and attach w/ fabric tac glue as well to make no slip.  I heat seal the ends w a lighter.  No problems so far  - have only been making bows and barrettes for a year or so.
