We are thinking of going to Destin this summer w/ our two 3 yr olds and my mom &renting a house or condo. We know nothing about the area and it is getting way late & booked up for sure. When weeding through homeaway & vrbo, I have no idea what I'm looking for. Can anyone fill me in on the areas or even some condos or resorts that might be good?
Places that are coming up in early searches
Sandestin (was also looking at Sandestin golf & beach resort online, is this a good place?)
Maravilla (is this an area or a condo complex?)
Pelican Beach
Miramar Beach
Crystal Beach
Any areas that are great or to stay away from? For accommodations, we want something pretty nice & updated with decent space since we'll have 2 kids & my mother there, we're not looking for a bargain stay but also not the most expensive penthouse either! Houses (with pool) or condo complexes are ok but I just don't even know where to start... and also don't know where to be located for convenience- don't need to be in the middle of things but a short-ish drive would be nice (like not 45 min to get to dinner or something).
THANK YOU!
Re: Need Destin FL info...
All of these are fine, it probably depends on how much you want to spend. Baytowne Wharf is another nice area. You will never be 45 minutes away to get to dinner, Destin is not big at all. Sandestin is actually a different area but is still only like 10 minutes from Destin.
Edit: We have a house there so if you find houses and want to know about the area post it and I will tell you if it is nice or not. Overall any rental area in Destin is probably going to be nice. I have friends who have stayed at Waterscape at Ft Walton Beach and said it is awesome for families, and probably a 15 minute drive from Destin.
my family and I love Santa Rosa. I personally think it's a little nicer than Destin but only about 10 mins from there if that. SR has it's own shops and restaurants but you are close to the other stuff. It's just a little quieter. My family usually stays at Gulf Place Carribbean condos.
If you want to be closer to activities for the kids, etc. then Destin/Sandestin might be better for you. Crystal Sands is nice and right on the beach. Grand Carribbean East/West is across from it and little more budget-friendly.
