Two adults, a toddler, and a tiny bathroom

Hi!

I normally post on TIP. I've gotten the cleaning bug and am trying to organize my very small, cluttered house. My bathroom is the biggest issue. It's a very, very small bathroom (the sink has enough room on it for a bar of soap and my Sonicare toothbrush, to give you an idea of the nearly non-existant counter space). I have a rack over the toilet, there's no room for corner racks (we don't even have enough wall space to hang towels - they're hung on the towel bar in the shower), and the vanity/medicine cabinet are filled to the brim. The door opens right up to the sink, so there's really no usable space behind the door. I'm at a total loss as to trying to organize this room, especially now that we've got a potty chair taking up space. We have a linen closet outside our bedroom door, but that's also very small and filled up with things we do use. With our daughter getting older, there will be MORE stuff sitting around, and I'm tired of looking at it.

I could post a picture later tonight of my bathroom to give a better idea of the small space I'm talking about, but does anyone have any creative ideas to get things put away and out of sight when totally limited on space? I'm completely at a loss. (We have an early 1950s rambler, if that helps anyone with the small spaces associated with them.)

Oh, FFS.

  • Sounds a lot like our bathroom.  Before DD was born, I used her room as my "getting ready" room.  But when I had to move all my hair & makeup stuff in the bathroom it was hard.

I have all my makeup in a plastic stacker case from Target.  Kind of like this image

My hair stuff is under the sink in a basket & then I put a magazine box on the back of the door under the sink with command velcro strips to hold my dryer, flat iron & brushes.  Like this

Maybe get a plastic hanging shoe rack for the back of your door & stick things in each space.  Good luck!

  • I really like the magazine box idea for holding hair supplies! I think I'll try that out for sure!
    Oh, FFS.
  • It has worked out good for me!

  • I would suggest one of those rolling plastic drawer organizers.  It might be small enough to tuck into a corner or in your linen closet to organize toiletries, ect. but you can wheel it into the bathroom when you need it.  I would also limit the amount of stuff you keep in the bathroom.  I used portable things like this to wheel in when I needed them and then put away easily.  Before we remodeled my bathroom, we had a pedastal sink and no other closet space.  Is there any room for things in a medicine cabinet?
  • We also have a tiny bathroom.  1st thing I did was store the little potty away and change our toilet seat to this: https://m.buybuybaby.com/buybuybaby/product/detail.do?itemId=16897795

Sorry it's not clicky.  I bought ours from home depot a little cheaper.  They also have them for elongated toilets, if you have one of those.  Since your bathroom is so small can you store things in a linen closet?  If you don't have one you can designate part of your closet to be one.  We installed shelves in our master closet to store extra towels and bathroom over flow.

If your vanity has storage below,  look into the drawers they sell that you can install into cabinets. • Pics would really  help but I think the main thing is to take advantage of height space as well.  Get a bunch of those Sterlite containers from Walmart, label them and stack them on top of each other!
