NSOR: help me choose a girl's getaway destination

Opinions are needed.  My two BFF's and I are trying to plan a trip for late July.  I haven't been ANYWHERE since before I had P (it will be over three years by July).  So we are considering three potential destinations:

-Vegas

-Scottsdale, AZ

-Palms Springs

We mainly want somewhere beautiful and fun.  Most of our time will be spent lounging poolside and drinking fruity drinks.  We also want to make sure that we have somewhere with nice restaurants for dinner and somewhat of a nightlife at least (obviously Vegas would win out in that department).

Any thoughts about which place would be best?  We're open to either of the three I listed or somewhere else in the northwest area that wouldn't be too expensive to fly to.

Re: NSOR: help me choose a girl's getaway destination

  • I don't really know much about the other two, but my vote is for Vegas because I will be there in late July too!!
  • My vote is for Vegas or Napa Valley (I know that wasn't a choice, but it was the first thing that popped in my mind when I read the title of your post).

  • I lived in Vegas for a bit and visited last June. For me, it's way too hot in the middle of the summer to lounge at the pool. Maybe your tolerance for heat is way higher than mine, but my friend and I couldn't really hit the pool until the sun started going down, so just something to keep in mind.

I don't really like Scottsdale so I'd scratch that off my list (if it were me).

I haven't been to Palm Springs, so no recommendation there.

Have you considered Mexico? From where I live, flights are only a little more expensive than the destinations you mentioned, but the hotels and other expenses are so much cheaper that it all evens out. If you're in the Northwest, Cabo wouldn't be that much further than your other possible destination. You could definitely get good nightlife and pool action and depending on where you went, you'd be able to eat at some pretty good restaurants too.

  • I vote for Vegas! If it's your first trip away from P...then I vote for going "big" and going to Vegas. What I love about Vegas is that you can make it whatever you want-if you want the big party scene, you can have it. If you want super chill relaxing by the pool and wine/dine experience, you can have that, too.

My second vote would be Palm Springs (or Palm Desert)..the JW Marriott is a great place with a beautiful pool and spa. It would also be much less crowded than Vegas, which is a plus as I know in the summer in Vegas, you often have to camp out to get a spot at the pool (or pay for a cabana which can be $$) El Paseo in Palm Desert has great shopping and some great restauratns as well.

  • I've been to Vegas 13 times and love it in any weather, and it's a guaranteed good time for a girls trip. June is not as hot as July or August typically. Also recently took a trip with 7 other girlfriends to Cancun for my friend's 40th, which was amazing. We even said it beat out our Vegas trips because as we get a little older, we find the "scene" out there kind of hectic. Cancun was both fun and relaxing and the all inclusive aspect made it sooooo much cheaper than Vegas.

My friend who lives in LA goes to Palm Springs a lot and she seems to love it there. She stays with a gay male couple who are friends of hers and it seems like it's a huge gay scene there, so depending on if you are looking for some flirtation with straight men (I know you are probably not right now!), might not be the best place for that. But it sounds like it's a beautiful place with great weather.

ETA: just noticed you are in the Northwest, so Cancun is kind of far, but I've heard Cabo is great also.

  • Scottsdale / Phoenix has some really awesome spas and the nightlife in Scottsdale is great. You could totlaly do a spa trip there but still have fun stuff to do at night. But - you can't go wrong with Vegas :-)
  • You've probably already taken this into account, but Vegas or Scottsdale in July are going to be unbelievable hot.

I die at the thought of either.

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

I know!  Pam Springs would be as well.  It's really the only time we can go though.  I do LOVE the heat but it might be a bit much.  Hopefully we can get an area with some shade otherwise we'll probably spend most of the time in the pool.

I do like the idea of doing something different (I've been to Vegas twice, but never to AZ or Palm Springs).  Also flirting with random men is definitely not my primary objective now so I'm up for going anywhere that's a little more low key.

  • Vegas in July is going to be hot as hades.  We're going in August but going to be mostly indoors.

I agree with Napa, I love it there, but its not really a sit by the pool and drink place.

  • I will be in Vegas in late July too!  I'm sure anywhere with your closest friends, sun, and fruity drinks will be fantastic!!
  • If you want something a little more low-key than Vegas, my vote is Palm Springs.  I love, love, love it there!  The downtown area is super cute and there are a lot of fun shops, good restaurants, etc.

I've been to Scottsdale as well, but I prefer Palm Springs.

  • What the heck.  my last reply didnt stick but Palm Springs sounds perfect for what you want.   I suggest the Riviera because they have a good pool scene.  The JW Marriot is bachelor/bachelorette party central every weekend so I am not a fan personally.

The Miramonte is also super cute and has wine tastings and a good spa :)

Oh...I vote Napa!! It would be beautiful that time of year! A bit warm, but cooler than the other 3 places.

Honestly I think they will all be way too hot in July. Vegas and Scottsdale are so hot you can't even have fun outside at that time of year. I have been to Vegas at least 30 times and lived in AZ for 5 years...they both are so hot at that time of year!  For me Palm Springs is really boring ... I have been there a bunch of times and it's never been super fun.

I would go to San Diego...it's really fun! there are tons of beaches, downtown clubs, nice spas and restaurants and there are lots of young people

I would also consider San Francisco or Newport Beach
