They LOVE him...but what's not to love?!
FF's mom was a divorced single mom with a toddler boy, so she can completely relate to my situation. Her and her DH (FF's stepfather) have been married for 20 years, so she also knows that things are 100x better the second time around.
They always go out of their way to include Brody in things, like playing in the sand with him when we went to Lake Michigan last year, asking what toys he likes for when she was shopping for his birthday and Christmas, they came to his birthday party (along with FF's dad and his grandparents), etc. I tell his mom all the time how thankful I am for how warm of a reception Brody and I have received into their family. When we got engaged, his mom wrote on my FB wall, "Yayyy! Welcome to the family! And Brody too!"
We went out to dinner for Christmas Eve last year at a fairly swanky place (aka not kid-friendly) and FF's mom was digging through her purse, looking for something for Brody. She said "Oh shoot! I left the toy car i got for him at home. I'm not a very good Grandma!" I loved that she already considers Brody her grandson
Seeing what other people have been through with their IL's and having a blended family, I'm beyond thankful that Brody will have two more sets of grandparents (and another set of great-grandparents!) who love him just as much as FF and I do.
