Pls. endulge me 1 more kitty update

my kitty with the heart problem is spayed!!

you might remember i was in a state because she would go into heat and mark. she had to be confined to my bedroom/bathroom/hall and it was really starting to be too much. i was contemplating putting her down which would have absolutely broken my heart but i was running out of options. we just couldn't go on like this. my only option was to take her to VA Tech and have her spayed under the supervision of a board certified anesthesiologist (the only ones near us - as in within five hours - are at VA Tech and UPenn. No one locally would spay her).

i was terrified to go through with it though because i was so scared i was going to lose her. the final straw was when i had the carpets cleaned and treated and the guy brought out the black light. i made the appointment that day.

so my friend and i drove the five hours last tuesday and she had all sorts of work ups. they deemed the odds to be in her favor and i tearfully left her there. i heard on thursday that she had made it through and we picked her up on saturday.

she had a team of anesthesiologists working on her. and it's a teaching hospital so it wasn't all that expensive. i know they gave her a ton of expensive drugs including an epidural of all things! god love us, at least one of us is getting one.

relieved.

pretty good. she has to wear this hysterical ecollar. it's not like the plastic ones we're used to. she looks ridiculous in it. her brother runs in terror when he sees her in it. when i can watch her like a hawk i take it off her and just make her stop licking her sutures. she hates her "hat".

she also got shaved in 9 different places. and she's a very thin cat as it is, so she looks pretty toe up. in fact i was worried someone was in the house today (for like a second) and i was like man if they saw her they'd probably be like "wtf did you do to your cat?"

today she is sleepy. i think she is going through PTSD from being at the hospital (serioulsy!). she hated it there and it was hard for her to even relax when she got home. i think she's finally decompressing. either that or she's just not as aggitated of a cat now that she is not going through her heat cycle.
