ARGH! how do you depot limited edition MAC shadows?

I mean the ones that are limited edition and sold as quad shadows. They're GLUED on and I was hoping to put them into my 15 space palette. Any idea on how to depot them?

Re: ARGH! how do you depot limited edition MAC shadows?

  • For the single shadows, I usually peel off the label on the bottom, and burn through the plastic enough to get it melty, then push through the pot with a pen, gently of course. Maybe you could do the same with the quad? It's clearly not fool proof, though. I've broken a shadow doing this, so a lot of patients is required :P
  • I use my flat iron, and put a piece of wax paper between the plastic and the iron, then melt the plastic until they pop out.

I mix the technique from here (the wire cutters part) with the heat technique so you have something to grab once the glue melts. I've wrecked a few pots before I figured this cutting part out.

Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • It's doable but definitely a lot harder than depotting the singles. If you are familiar with depotting singles with a flat iron, use the same technique. It has to sit on the iron a lot longer. I just push on the melted back with a screw driver until I can push it out enough. Then I grab the pan with a pair of tweezers. Sometimes I have to put it back on the iron and just keep repeating the process until the plastic is more malleable.
