I've been left in charge of making a dessert/cake for Sunday. I seriously need some input or thoughts. I am completely opposed to making a red velvet cake (or blue, or purple, or green, or yellow, or pink, or black, or zippitydoodah) but I want to make something somewhat special. I was going to make a bundt cake that was in the NY Times food section a few weeks ago. When my mom handed me the recipe, she called it "effing awesome" and it is. But it has candied burbon, apples, and lemons. I feel like it wouldn't be pleasing to all audiences. I have a blueberry cake with lemon merangue (sp?) frosting bookmarked that looks really great. And I've made a vanilla cake with lemon/orange curd and marshmellow frosting, but it doesn't travel well or keep. (I need to make it Friday, no other time)
Does anyone else have any ideas? I'd like to avoid cheesecakes and chocolate..
Re: dessert opinions?
That's sort of where I was leaning. It's hard for me to think of what would appeal to every age group.
I'm open to other ideas as well. I have time to fret over things so I'm not rushing.. yet anyway.
I agree!
I told my mom my plans for the blueberry cake, and she informed me that my father hates blueberries. So I suggested raspberry instead.. and she informed me that my uncle is likely bringing something with a cream frosting... and suggested that I make the ginger burbon cake.
I think I'm going to say *** it and make a Betty Crocker cake and call it a day. My family probably wouldn't even notice.
