If you go to urgent care, so it's not a doctor you have a relationship with or will see again, and he hands you a piece of paper after the most perfunctory exam ever, saying "fold it, put it in your purse, read it at home, don't tell anyone b/c 'they don't like it" and it's a daily devotional with contact info for a local bible course, wwyd?
Does it matter knowing that this is who the military (ie gov't funded) refers out to when they don't have appointments which happens often? I saw at least one other mil couple there.
I'll be calling my military clinic, too, but that's to tell them that the doc is only in 2 days a week and only til 3, so my referral there yesterday was useless as I got there at 3:10. They might want to know that urgent care isn't so urgent.
For the record, I'm more bemused than anything else, but I'll probably still report it to the company since it's not an independent office, and he's obviously going against policy.

Re: proselytizing at the doctor's: wdyt?
Anything that is given to me with a statement like this:
is definitely going to get complained about, loudly. He's knowingly violating the rules. No matter what he/she is handing to you, he is doing it knowing the clinic isn't agreeing with it - and he's TELLING you they don't agree with it.
Report him.
Maybe persecuting some christians (TIC, before I get hate mail!) will make up for the fact that I've now waited over 24 hours since trying to get an appt to get meds for a UTI (still waiting, btw. pharmacy had a 2 hour wait). Thank fsm that I keep old pain meds around.
Yes,I'm smiling...I'm a marathoner!

You were wearing your atheist perfume again, weren't you? He probably smelled you as you walked in.
I'm the type the person who would write a note, go back when he's working and tell him not to read it until he gets home.
I'd be somewhere between angry and irritated. Its horribly unprofessional and I question his ethics.
For the record, I'd be angry if this happened in any kind of professional setting (with an attorney, financial planner, etc.) I'm there for a reason, and its NOT to get information on bible courses.
Not OK. If it is not relevant to my medical care and not invited by me - not OK. I had a donor attempt to convert me the other day and I listened and very politely thanked him for sharing. If I, as a fundraiser, tried to do that? no way. I'd be out on the street.

Boo, I can't find a complaint line. I can call the clinic directly, but they don't pick up. Besides, there's no one at the clinic except a tech, a student, and the doc.
There's apparently no single managing office or hr that I can figure out. I called another office (that I think is the main one with the head doc) that also didn't pick up.
I think I'll forget about the religious stuff and start up a bitchfest that the military even refers to this group.
I googled the PO box, and it's for an Adventist church. I thought they were generally live and let live types.
I even did a clinical in an Adventist hospital and barely noticed anything beyond a prayer/meditation room on the floor.
"fold it, put it in your purse, read it at home, don't tell anyone b/c 'they don't like it"
That's not cool at all, regardless of it being military or private. My old, crazy Obgyn said something similar to me when she tried to get me to buy this lava ash stuff that supposedly cures cancer and prevents autism b/c it sucks out toxins in the body. She gave me a website & password and told me not to say anything to anyone b/c she could lose her medical license. If you have to tell a patient to keep quiet b/c you're going against the rules, it's wrong. I could understand if the patient initiated the conversation and asked for this material, but not what you described.
Look out your window, kids. See those pigs?
Hey, doc, so I've got this rash. BTW, do you know of a good bible study around here?
I'm so amused at the scenario in which this would come up organically. It would have to be fast, too, b/c I think he used more words telling me to hide the paper than anything else.
I would sh*t a brick, and then raise hell until this was addressed.
Completely inappropriate.
