Any RNs out there? Nesties going to school? Come in!
I'm looking at the curriculum for RN and it looks pretty daunting. Obv I am not going to be able to work 2 jobs while doing the actual nursing program, but I'd be living with my family in TX anyway (Yay!
) so ideally, one job will get me by.
Anyone out there going to school full time and working full time? Hows that workin for ya? Any tips or thoughts? thanks ~
Re: Any RNs out there? Nesties going to school? Come in!
I've tried to work full time and go to school full time and it never works for me, my classes always suffer. I can only take one or two classes a semester when Im working.
I know a lot of people can do it, more power to them, I just know I can't.
I'm not a nurse, so I can't speak to the course load, but I did work full time, went to school full time (an hour's drive each way) and had kids and still graduated with honors. It can be done, it just takes a lot of time management.
There will be a lot of late nights... Just focus and know that it's only for a certain amount of time. It too shall pass. GL
I didn't to the nursing program, but I just recently graduated with my BA from Kaplan University, which is an online program. There are brick and motar campuses for Kaplan in Florida and Illinois, but they are primarily online (and are accredited).
I completed my last 2 years of my degree while raising an infant (now toddler), having my XH leave me, going through a divorce, being a single parent, all while working full-time in the corporate world. It's not easy, but it CAN be done and the satisifcation and pride when you walk across that stage to graduate is an unrivaled feeling.
I loved the online program because I could do my school work after DS was in bed for the night or even during my lunch breaks at work. Each week there was a 1 hour "live" seminar (the teacher spoke live in a chatroom format, where the students could ask questions and we watched a power point presentation), and that really helped too.
ETA: Kaplan DOES offer nursing degrees online -- you just have to have a local hospital/doctor/clinic that is willing to sponsor you for an internship/clinical
