Settle something for me

I had my teeth cleaned yesterday and I always brush and floss before I go to the dentist. A few co-workers looked at me funny and said why bother? They are going to clean them anyway. I feel like I should at least brush my teeth so they look halfway decent and not that I don't take care of them.

So niners what do you do? Brush your teeth before a cleaning or just let them take care of it?

  • I always brush my teeth before I go too.

I mean I do brush 2x's a day normally, but I never floss.

  • I always brush and floss my teeth right before going to the dentist -- I don't want them subjected to my nasty coffee breath!

  • I always brush and floss too.  Whatever I can do to minimize the scraping is a good thing.

This is me. And I can't handle the scraping noise. I'd rather help minimize that.

Baby, you've got the sort of eyes that tell me tales...

  • I brush and floss every time.
  • I ALWAYS brush and floss (even if I don't normally floss). I'd rather go in and them tell me what a great job I am doing than go in and have them have to scrape & polish for more than necessary.

    This is me.

My dentist just called me and asked if I could come in today instead of next Tuesday. I said yes but I'm like CRAP i don't have my toothbrush. I do have floss, though.

  • I brush & floss before appointments too!

  • Nope.  I just brush like I normally do.  I hate flossing.  But since getting an electric toothbrush, the scraping has been pretty minimal.  And my hygeinist is a very gentle flosser, so I dont' really mind.

  • I brush before I go.

I don't want to breathe gross unbrushed breath at the poor hygienist.

  • I always brush and use mouthwash before I go.  Not sure why, but I just feel better doing it.

I guess it is similar to me always dressing up and being perfectly groomed for my OB.  I'm strange.

  • I always brush extra good before I go. I'd imagine my hygienist appreciates it.
  • Ya, I totally brush before I go to the dentist. Its not so much to make them clean, but as others said, a courtesy to not have totally yucky breath.

Dont worry, you're not the only one. We've had this poll before.  Some do, and some don't. It also varies on the doctor type (sick vs check-up). I dress up because I feel like they will take me more seriously even though I'm naked when they come in.

  • I always brush and floss before I go. I normally floss every day though.

  • I brush and floss. Just because someone's job is to look at teeth all day doesn't mean they don't appreciate some consideration.
  • I brush, floss and use mouth wash before I go.  I have terribly sensitive gums and I feel like this preps them for the torture, plus it just seem rude to me not to do it even though they are cleaning them. They don't need to see my breakfast left overs in my teeth!
  • Yup, I brush and mouth wash before the dentist. As as others have said, mostly to be considerate and not for cleanliness.

And add me to the list of being perfectly groomed before a GYN appointment as well.
