Harness or gentle leader?

Which one do you think would help my little princess it's not appropriate to pull your arms off? And by little I mean my 35+lb 5.5 month old boxer.

Re: Harness or gentle leader?

  • Gentle Leader!  A harness encourages pulling in most cases.  I love the GL especially since Lily is squirrel obsessed. I actually attach the leash to both the GL and her collar.
  • I use an Easy Walk harness with my fosters and swear by it.

  • Easy Walk.  We like the easy walk a lot, but if you get it, be sure to make sure the fit is right.  It is so much better than a harness for pulling, but you'll have to be careful about chaffing under the arms.  If you start to see chaffing, you might pick up a harness to use for a little while.  Neither are very expensive on Amazon (I think the easy walk is $15 w/prime).

  • I have a gentle leader for my great dane and an easy walk harness for my pug... I love and suggest them both...

  • Easy-walk harness user here!  I was told not to use a gentle leader on my pup because she is young... she thrashes/jumps around a lot and could cause a neck injury.  The easy walk has been a life saver - I can finally enjoy walks with my 65 lb energetic pup!

  • another vote for easy walk; especially with "bully breed" dogs, because people often think the gentle leader is some sort of muzzle.

  • Easy walk harness here for our 55lb Boxer as well! We use it only in situations where shes prone to get excited & pull - in public, on bike rides, trips to the vet, etc. I swear by it!! I even bought a new one when she outgrew our first. I've given them as gifts to friends with pullers! They love them too!

  • I should have said Easy Walk.  That's what we use.  We do not have the GL which goes over the snout.
  • Some dogs (like mine) HATE the gentle leader so we got a front clip harness (by the same company who makes the gentle leader).  The front clip harnesses do NOT encourage pulling because they turn the dog to the side the same way a gentle leader does.
  • Another vote for the Easy Walk for our 55 lb. boxer. Sometimes we have to clip it to his collar since he has a big chest.
  • Got the easy walker worked great! Thinking about getting it for my 4 y/o boxer too.. He's not too bad, but he has his moments. Thanks so much ladies!
