I used to lose sunglasses all of the time. I had a pair of oaks while I was in the military that I never lost, but they were ugly (stolen...long story...don't judge me...you don't know my lyfe). So I made a pact with myself that if I could keep track of one pair of cheap sunglasses for one year, I would treat myself to a new, cute (who cares about regulation!) pair of Oakleys. So, do you wear them? Which style? I've never tried any on, but my face is pretty much normally shaped. (like oval/circle?)
Ok, I stole the oakleys from this drunken idiot MH invited to our apt for a party. He lit a firecracker in our apt. I decided his punishment would be to "lose" his sunglasses. Judge away! And watch your stuff around me.
Re: Do you wear Oakley sunglasses?
I wear Maui Jims. Oakleys are fug. Also, they're huge on me. I basically have a kid sized face.
Costco carries them, although not the style I have now. I actually have 2 pairs now. The new one I got when I moved to Hawaii b/c I felt I needed more wrap around. I think it's the Makaha
http://www.mauijim.com/makaha-4278.html
My old (about 5 years) pair I keep as backup. I got them at Costco, but that style isn't there anymore.
I also wore Reptiles, which I believe is actually part of MJ but cheaper, for about 5 years until I left them at a friend's house
H has a pair of flak jackets that he got off a website at a deep discount. I think the lenses are ballistic rated so he can wear them at work. He loves them.
ETA: I should add he only wears them at work because he's afraid if he brings them into the house he'll lose them or either Lilly or the pups will get hold of and ruin them. If it weren't for that, he'd wear them all the time.
67/200
Ha! I just have a cheap pair that I bought at one of the little boardwalk stores at the Jersey Shore.
I hardly ever wear sunglasses because I wear glasses to see, and I am too cheap to buy prescription sunglasses. If I happen to be wearing my contacts on a sunny day, I might wear my cheap Jersey Shore glasses, but it is rare.
Oakleys are fugly. E has a pair and if the could grow legs and get lost I would be a happy woman. However I recently paid to have his Rx put in them so I think I might cry if they got lost right now. His are Juliets.
The "typical" RayBan style is a wayfarer. Think typical 80's sunglasses. They are really nice and carry both the standard size and a smaller women's size. Only thing is the lenses are glass. Not a big fan of glass lenses myself because they can break when you drop them.
I have a ton of sunglasses. Anything from a limited edition Tilla pair with leather flowers to crazy cateyes with rhinestones. I have 2 Coach pair. My two current pair other than my Rx ones, which are Coach, are Bebe. I love them.
I like the top, are they Coach or Bebe? I got a little confused, sorry.
Oh sorry! Those are both Bebe. The Coach I have are disc. only because the manufacture chose not to repurchase the license and the new manufacture is doing a crappy crappy job so unless you can find discounted ones at Costco don't buy them! ( Well unless you think they are cute).
These Bebe you can only currently get from an eye doctor who carries Altair sunglass frames. The top one is called the Charming. It comes in Black with purple on the top too.
Well crap. I don't need an eye doctor.
Just find one that carries them. You don't need an exam. You can buy them just the way they are. At our office they are $187. Just go in and say. Hey I wanted to look at your sunglasses. No biggie.
Costco has a small selection of the high end frames, like maui jim and serengeti. I may have even seen ray ban there.
Or, go to sunglass hut and try on styles then order cheaper online. Actually, I bought my last pair at sunglass hut b/c the guy helping was so friendly and was adjusting all the frames for my tiny head.
The only thing I really look for in sunglasses is to guarantee they're polarized. A lot of the designer $$$ aren't. I've worn polarized glasses since I was about 19, and they're worth every penny. Other than that, fit is what I focus on b/c of my narrow face.
When MJs and Oakleys, you can get into different categories of how unbreakable or unscratchable they are. My MJs I picked a) b/c they fit and b) b/c there's no metal anywhere which I wanted in my salt water world. Plus, they wrap so they're good for wind when I'm boating.
I have the "old school" style Ray Bans. They are a little wide on my face I have to tighten them monthly so I would make sure to try them on in a store if you can.
Here is a pic of mine,
They were my xmas gift to myself and were $125ish less than $150 for sure. They also came with a case and 2 clothes to clean them.
They aren't polarized. I'm not super big into polarized myself but I do sell it to my patients.
Good luck on your search!
LOVE my MJs! I have the Pau Hana (sp?) ones and I also have Marc Jacob's ones that I don't really like anymore. Total buyers remorse with that one.
And like Sibil, I think Oakleys are fug and every douche I've ever met just happened to be wearing one backwards on their head.
And like you, I make myself wear cheap ones because I am notorious for losing and breaking sunglasses. Right now I wear a $10.00 pair of aviators religiously and wear my nice glasses only on special occasions or very sunny days.
Pau hana is happy hour. Cheers!
I think I've found that it's easier to keep track of expensive sunglasses. I'm always wearing them, so I always know where they are. I can't leave them behind in the same way I can't leave keys behind.
That doesn't work for H, though. Right now he's wearing the $40 Kirkland polaroids. His 2nd pair. Thankfully, we found the Serengetis he thought he lost. They'd been packed away in storage while he was in Korea.
This. They have to have non-polarized sunglasses or something? idk... But Oakleys makes good ones apparently.
I have a pair of Von Zippers (because I'm a hipster California kid? hah) and a pair of Pradas and love them both in different ways.
