Good morning!

Just when I need some serious distraction to keep my mind off my u/s next week, this board dies! So... here's a good morning post.

Good morning! It's a dreary, rainy day here, but we don't have much going on other than packing our personal stuff in preparation for the subletters. If you were a subletter, would you be happy if we left you some opened food items like flour, sugar, and margarine, or would you be grossed out by it? I'm trying to decide what to do. I would be happy about it, but I also have a very high threshold for being grossed out by stuff like that.

QOTD: When you're anticipating something and trying to distract yourself, what do you do?

Re: Good morning!

  • QOTD: I try to bury myself in masses of light, fictional novels. Or I watch tv. The problem this week is that that's kind of hard to do since I need to get other stuff done, but when packing the time just doesn't fly like it does when reading a interesting novel.

  • Good Morning!

It's been a fairly average Thursday here -- hotter than usual, so I am not feeling the meatballs and noodles I had planned for dinner.  I was at the grocery early this morning before it got too crazy, and managed to get everything I needed except toilet paper.  I called DH and asked him to pick some up on the way home -- everything is closed tomorrow and we are down to 1 roll, so it's a little bit urgent.

As for your subletters, I'd probably throw away the flour, sugar, etc. because I am a bit nervous about those kinds of things, but it's more likely I's just leave them for you when you got back -- on the theory that they are not mine so I can't use them.

QOTD:  I tend to give myself tasks to count off the time -- something that I need to do everyday, like reading chapters of a book, or exercising; and then big tasks each day, like cleaning the kitchen well on the first day, getting the laundry done on the second, reorganizing the closets on the third, etc.  I usually still worry about what I am trying not to think about, but I have gained at least a couple of hours a day of not thinking about it.

I don't mind being held to a higher standard; I mind being held to a lower one. (Sam Seaborn, The West Wing)

  • Hey. DH is working a 2nd shift at work so we have been staying up later then usual. We are also a little hooked on True Blood and can't pull ourselves away. Tomorrow is my last class before Easter Break. I have lots of homework to work on Thursday and Friday before we head north to WI for the weekend.

I hope you u/s shows that everything is fine Kelly. *hugs* I tossed most of the stuff in the cupboards when we had the apartment we subleted.  But we got the apartment from  24 year old bachelor. Yeah... no thanks.

QOTD: I usually just ignore that it exists. I'm terrible at purposely forgetting about things.

Now Nesting from Chicago, IL My nail blog:
  • Morning! Last day of work before a four day weekend. Woohoo! I don't think we're doing much for Easter, but it'll be a nice change from our busy routine. And I'm planning a nice menu for Sunday (looking forward to cooking).

QOTD: good question because I can totally relate. I would probably immerse myself into the packing thing because I like preparing for something I'm excited about. Usually when packing, I end up reorganzing and cleaning up the house in a big way. Very satisfying, usually necessary, and keeps you occupied!

Also, I would be happy about finding some staples in the house. And if they're not, they can just throw them out.

  • Good morning! I am recovering from a stomach bug, so it is all broth and tv for me today. Thinking I might go back to bed soon.

As for the flour, I would throw it out or give it to a friend who knows you.  I wouldn't use flour or sugar that was sitting in a cupboard for an undetermined amount of time

    QOTD: go to the cinema

  • Good morning!

If the stuff is unopened, I would leave it for your subletters with a note telling them to help themselves. Or, you could do what I did before leaving the US. I had a pantry "open house" and my friends took whatever items they were interested in- lentils, pine nuts, boxes of pasta, etc. I hate throwing perfectly good food away!

QOTD: ehhh... come to the Nest/Bump boards?

  • Morning! I had a killer pilates reformer class last night so my cycle to work this morning was a challenge - no pains but just my legs were really tired from last night.  I'll feel it other places as the day goes on.

For the subletters, I would leave the things - I know we have rented holiday homes in the past and I've been a little frustrated that there weren't things like salt, cooking oil, etc there - who wants to buy a full container of oil/salt for a week's holiday (if not in your own country...) or the hassle of remembering them when doing a car trip (not to self, remember these things for our trip later this month...)

QOTD: Reading or knitting and tv are my distractions. Or baking/cooking.  Failing that a long walk with music so that the music drowns out the sounds of my thoughts... But the keeping busy and packing would work too.

(on a side note, I know in this country they usually only do a u/s at 7 weeks so that there is more certainty of hearing the hearbeat as any earlier is not so accurate... fingers and toes crossed for you that it was just too early.  xx)

  • Good morning and I hope your u/s goes well! When I'm trying to get my mind off something I like to read or watch tv. Also the thing I do most often would be clean and organize! For some reason that really helps. :)

Yeah, with DD my first u/s was at 7 weeks also. If everything looks good next Thursday, then I think for any future children I'm going to make sure not to schedule the first appointment until then to avoid this state of limbo.

Oh! Just realized your ticker says 6, not 16. My OB/Gyn in NYC wouldn't even schedule the first pregnancy appt. until I was 8 weeks. The nurse over the phone took my info on LMP, etc., told me to start taking PNVs and then scheduled me for an appointment during week 8.

  • Good morning.  I'm so happy this is the last day of work before the Easter holiday.  We're heading back to NYC tomorrow for a week, and while I'll be working from our office there for a few days, it will be a nice change of pace from here.  Usually I spend a lot of time catching up with people in the office there, and not doing a lot of actualy work!  We do have a lot of stuff to do tonight to get ready though, so will be a busy day.

For the subletters, I probably wouldn't use opened things like flour/sugar/margarine, but would use things like oil, salt or other spices.  I don't know why I would differentiate, though.  So I would say leave it - if they don't want it, they either won't touch it or will throw it out, which isn't that much hassle.  And if they would use it, they'll definitely appreciate it.

QOTD: kelly, I hope everything goes well with your u/s.  I usually try to immerse myself in tv/movie series to distract myself.

  • Good Morning!

I am back from vacation and now I have to unpack :( but I am happy that here everything is closed for the next two days so I can just relax and do nothing.

QOTD: I try to pretend that it is not happening. I  try to spend as much time as possible with friends/family and with hobbies. I hate waiting.

  • Good morning all!

It seems that it will be a nice sunny day here, so glad. I have a whole lot of music to study and then off to run some move-related errands with hubby.

I'd also be grossed out by left over flour, margarine etc. I'd feel bad tossing them but couldn't bring myself to use them for sure :(

QOTD: If I had some packing to do I would totally pack 'til I dropped. Otherwise cleaning, organizing the closets or kitchen cabinets, cleaning the fridge (dreadful) to the sound of loud opera usually works at taking my mind off things, when indoors. Or, even better, shopping/window shopping or getting on the phone with BFF and talk for hours.
