What are your summer vacation plans?

I havent booked my summer travel plans yet. I feel like I should start the ball rolling on it.

So where are you going this summer?

and what is your favorite place in Europe? I need some ideas.

Re: What are your summer vacation plans?

  • USA and Atlantic Canada. I wanted to do an anniversary trip but when I mentioned going back north, Dad immediately asked if he could come along.

I've been wanting to show DH my university and introduce him to the wonders of Dysarts in Bangor, ME, Irving Big Stop, garlic fingers, poutine and Canadian microbrews. Fat kid trip, yes, but I can't tell you how happy I get when I see the Canadian government sign on the border crossing!

Favorite place in Europe? I can't help much since I haven't traveled much out of Spain. However, within Spain I love Laguardia in Alava and Santillana del Mar in Cantabria.

  • We have a May trip planned (in the process of being planned, that is), but no real summer plans yet.  Oh wait, I just lied. My sister is coming at the end of August for a week and she and I are headed to Bordeaux for a few days. Sadly H will not be joining us. As for summer trips with H, we might take a long weekend at his parents' apartment in the mountains to enjoy a bit of hiking.

Fave place in Europe: hmm... I haven't been to too many, but I did really love touring the lochs in Scotland. It was beautiful in the summer and not too hot for nice hikes!  I am also in love with Etretat, a small fisher town in Normandy. There is a beautiful view of the sea and cliffs, good seafood, and stories about hidden treasure (Ars?ne Lupin stories). It is a lovely place for a quiet weekend away

  • We'll be going to a lakeside cabin in MO with my parents, brother, and his GF. My cousin owns the cabin, so we're getting a great deal on it.

In Europe? Hm. Hard to say. On vacation I'm more of a beach person and not much of a culture person, so anywhere in southern Europe on the Med sounds good to me.

  • I've got a wedding in Prague in July and a Wedding in Austria in August.  I'm going to the US in between.

My favorite place will always be Prague, but I realize that I'm biased.

Did you buy your plane tickets? Were they crazy expensive?

  • Summer doesn't come until December here, and them I am going home to NOLA for my Dad's retirement party and Christmas with my family, followed by a Caribbean cruise in January.  I cannot wait!!!

This winter we have no real travel plans, maybe some long weekends, but nothing major.

My favorite place in Europe is either Helsinki or Cork -- but I was in Helsinki for a cruise port so I saw it quickly and would love more time to explore.  I spent a couple of days in Cork assisting a friend who was moving home; we were supposed to have a longer trip that included Dublin, but life got in the way so I only had Wednesday evening to Saturday morning in Cork.

I don't mind being held to a higher standard; I mind being held to a lower one. (Sam Seaborn, The West Wing)

Not yet. We're looking at around 945 eur/pp. Lower than in the past.

  • You guys get a summer vacation?

I wrote a book! Bucket list CHECK!
  • We have our anniversary trip in June. My BFF might come to NYC from LA in July and we might swap places for 5-6 days. I'd love to do that, it would be my first trip to California with hubby, finally. Then I have a semi-scheduled trip to Rome in August-September.

My favorite places in Europe are in Italy, mainly because they hold emotional value. My grandmother is from gorgeous Friuli, way up north in Italy, so growing up my dad and I would spend a few weeks in the summer and hike our way up to Austria, cross the border (which is basically a white line traced on the ground) and eat at both italian and austrian "rifugi". The nature and surroundings of the mountains, valleys etc. is amazing. A few popular spots like Cortina D'Ampezzo are also within driving distance.

Another favourite is Stintino in Sardegna. This place is almost surreal, the water is so clear it's like Tahiti or something! I would recommend visiting it.

  • We are going to NY tomorrow, yay!

In May we are going to Positano for DH's 30th.

A week after we are doing a long weekend in Bruges with his parents.

Then in June I'm doing a bike trip in the Netherlands with a friend who's coming over from Australia.

In July DH's parents are back (they are in Europe for three months travelling around), and we are going to Beaune.

  • Haven't booked the tickets yet, but going to the US in July for family reunion and my sister's wedding. Yay!

Then my brother and his fiance are flying back with me (though on a different flight) for a two week visit here. Double yay!

ETA: favorite place in Europe....I've only been to Italy and to Innsbruck, Austria, which is gorgeous.

  • We are going to Thailand for two weeks in October (which is fall for us). We don't take holidays over summer instead enjoy the air conditioned comfort of work- plus it is dead quite which is great!
  • France!  Road tripping for 2wks... basically the outer parameter (skipping the Riviera b/c of the traffic and limited time).

    Bring on the vacation!

  • Posted about our anniversary trip already (French Basque Country & running of the bulls in Pamplona).

With DD, I will probably head down to Spain again and try to rent a little beach house with one of my cousins to stay in Cadaques or some other Catalan beach town. DH has no interest in this, but I'm excited about DD and my cousin's child of almost the same age getting to play and hang out at the beach.

As a family, we want to get to see as much of France as we can- Provence, Corsica, the Pyrenees and Bretagne are at the top of the list- but I'm not sure if we'll do those in summer or at times when there are less tourists around.

Hmmm, favorite place in Europe? I can't decide. I'm a big city person and love Paris, Lisbon and Naples, but I also like slower-paced places like Cadiz and Madeira.

  • We will be exploring Chicago this summer. DH and I might spend memorial weekend in Orlando. But it's so expensive for flights for the next three months it might just be him going to visit his friend.

I'm planning to visit my grandma in south Georgia but don't know when yet.

Favorite place in Europe: :/ I like Switzerland a lot. The Italian section is like a whole other world compared to the German part. We spent a day in Lugano and it was awesome! I liked visiting the Baltic sea while in Germany it was a shame we went in winter though.

  • We're heading to Rehoboth beach for two weeks - one week with mom & step-dad, one week with dad & step-mom, brother/SIL/niece/nephew coming in the middle for one week.  Other than that, hanging out in London & going to see hockey at the Olympics.

    I also love Prague.

  • We have a wedding in England in a couple weeks and are stopping in Hay-on-Wye 'on the way' - it's not really on the way at all but I've wanted to go forever and we're lucky enough to have friends driving us who suggested it.

I'm a bridesmaid in a wedding in Portugal in June and we've booked our flights to be there for 10 days - the wedding takes up 3 nights but we haven't figured out the rest. My inlaws are in Ireland in June and my brother and his wife are honeymooning in Ireland in August and we plan to meet up with each of them for a weekend and I'm still hoping to make it to London for a couple days during the Olympics just to wander around and check it all out.

Favourite place in Europe.... wow, that's really, really hard. I absolutely adore every moment I've spent in Italy, Portugal is fantastic, Prague is one of my favourite places ever. We do a lot of 'let's see where the budget airlines fly this weekend' trips and the surprising places have been fantastic - Carcassonne, Stockholm and Tallinn come to mind.

  • I'm going back to Canada for work. :(

Given the start and end date of my contract I don't have a lot of time for vacations. I'm hoping to squeeze in hiking the West Coast Trail, but it's not looking all that likely.

It's my brother's university convocation in Halifax in May so I may take a trip out there for that.

I have a wedding in Toronto in July.

I'll probably head out to my friend's cabins in BC for a long weekend or two over the summer. I'll head out to the mountains to do some backpacking, and hiking but that's about it.

But no real vacatons plans.  I can't really complain though, I spent 8 weeks backpacking through Africa last summer, and just got back from a 2 week vacation in Peru a couple of weeks ago. So I haven't exactly been hard done by!

  • I'll be super pregnant, so nowhereSad

If I was still in London, and not pregnant, I'd like either Northern Spain, Northern Italy or the Baltics. Probably Spain.

  • DD and I won't be arriving in Scotland until May 30th so I'll probably be spending the beginning of my summer unpacking and getting settled in our new home. We will be back in the states in September for Dh's brother's wedding- its in Georgia. Other than that we are looking to plan a short 4-5 day trip somewhere in August possibly Ireland or France. Any suggestions would be great :)
