who do you follow?

I almost give up dieting.. although I am not that fat but I still have fats and I want to lose them. I am getting frustrated because no matter what I do instead of losing weight, I am adding some. They said, I need an inspiration or a mentor to follow to help me focus with my goals. How about you guys? Who?s your biggest mentor in the industry or who do you follow?

Re: who do you follow?

  • I don't follow anyone in the diet "industry", I try to avoid all things industry when it comes to dieting, much of it is related to fad diets that don't work (long-term). I also like to think of it more as eating a healthy diet as opposed to "being on a diet" - technically whatever you eat is your diet, most people just have an unhealthy diet. My healthy eating doesn't have an endpoint, hopefully I'll stick with it for life. Anyway, the thing that's helped me focus the most is tracking my food intake. I use MyFitnessPal, and I track calories, as well as keeping an eye on my carb-fat-protein ratio (I'm aiming for slightly less carbs and more protein than the average high-carb diet). The hardest thing is forcing myself to log every food accurately - if I cheat and have something I wasn't supposed to, I have to log it and move on, otherwise I'll end up stopping logging, which leads to more overeating. I also try to plan my meals ahead of time, sometimes just the night before. I'll measure them out into containers that I bring to work.
  • spark people taught me how to eat right.  By having a range of calories, carbs, fat, and protein to hit each day I learned what I could/couldn't eat.  My husband and I are both trying to get into better shape so having his support has been huge.  I also have some FB friends who have lost some serious weight who without them even knowing it have been an inspiration in that I have that "if you can do it, so can I" type of attitude.

I also started a blog to help me keep myself on track.  I figured by writing things out it would motivate me to keep going.  I have shared my blog with a couple of close friends who are supportive in my goal to live a healthier lifestyle.  If you are interested, let me know.  I only started last week Monday so I'm still in the beginning stages.

Also, I think "dieting" is a horrible term.  Diets are temporary.  If you want to lose weight, keep it off, and maintain a healthy lifestyle you have to be willing to make a permanent change.  I think it's about learning to eat healthy for life ;-)

  • I don?t believe in following others in health matters, as what suits their body might not be with fine. So I resort to my rules and regulations of fitness.
