Tackling The Pull Up...

Hello Ladies!

I just finished my second session of our local boot camp, and I'm tremendously stronger.  Before boot camp, the only weights I'd ever touched were 3 pounders.  For our next session, I'm getting some 10's!  I've managed to tackle the push up, which I was unable to do a few months ago.  Now I can do 10 in one set, even elevated!  

I've just recently signed up to do a local Mud Run, and although my arms are much stronger, I'll be climbing walls and poles.  My newest challenge is to tackle the pull up.  I was always the one in high school just dangling there on that poll...Do you have any advice to get me started?

  • Band assisted pullups.  You can get big rubber bands a lot of places (search "crossfit bands" on amazon.com).  You loop them around the bar and then put a foot in.

    You can buy different resistance levels so you end up using more and more of your own power as you get stronger!!

  • Negatives.  Jump up to the bar, and work on lowering yourself as slowly as possible.

    You can also do them with a little jump to get up and over the bar to help, or use a resistance band as a counterweight and gradually wean yourself off it.

    Oh yeah, negatives really helped as well!!
