S/O Crazy&Cloth Diapering
Am I crazy for wanting to start using cloth diapers?
After using disposables for almost a year, I feel like I should just keep going.
Honestly, I was against the whole cloth diapering thing but then after reading more and more about it... the more I liked the idea of saving money and it being better for the environment.
The only reason I decided against it was because we didn't have access to a washer and dryer daily... but now that we do (as of this AM, actually!! 
) I want to try them out.
So what do you guys think? Those who cloth diaper, do you think it's worth making the switch now or should I just wait until we have LO#2?

Yeah, I think that was another deterrent at the time when I was making the decision. I wasn't sure if I would be working full-time.
It sucks that DC doesn't deal with them but I do get why they wouldn't.

I like using cloth diapers, which I use about 95% of the time. We keep an emergency stash of disposables for trips or if I don't time my laundry right
If you are planning on having a LO#2, and you're probably at least like 10mos away from potty training...at the least...I would say go for it.

They're durable, each comes with 2 inserts (a lot of CDs make you buy the inserts separate), relatively inexpensive as far as CDs go, and as a bonus pretty cute fabrics. I've gotten the one size snazzy minky, bamboo minky, ultra soft cross-over square tab, and original cross-over square tab, and been happy with all of them. The bamboos are really good for around the house and nap time, the other ones are also good for outings and nighttime.
I do have to do laundry every couple of days, usually a prewash, mild detergent wash, then throw in a short vinegar rinse.
The only other thing is, they definitely add a lot more padding than disposables, so clothing fits a little tight.
Are bamboos not as absorbent?
Do you have a special hamper that they soak?
The extra padding may be a good thing for Evie. She's on the skinny side, so she's a little too tall for 12months sizes but too skinny for 18 months.

Well, they say they are, but for us they just couldn't hold up to Newt's excessive nighttime pee. Something about the other fabrics just seemed to be better about leaking as well.
I don't soak them. I scrape any poo in to the toilet (and you can also get this cool sprayer thing to help get any thing really stuck on there, but the microfleece is really easy to clean off). I have them in a diaper pail with a special diaper pail liner specifically for cloth diapers. Someone on here actually gave me the link...I can't remember who..maybe Tara?

From what I read, you don't really need to soak them though, because you do laundry pretty regularly.
And ya, it kind of cracks me up when I put a disposable on Newt because she drops like two sizes. With her CDs on, she fits comfortable in 18-24 mos, but w/o she easily fits into 12mos in the waist. I forget how scrawny she really is.
I just use a free & clear, usually ALL. There's some debate about whether you have to use a special kind, and for some of the uber spiffy really expensive ones that use wool covers, ya, you do want to use special oils and detergent. But, you don't want to use a lot of detergent when you wash anyway. The residue builds up and makes them less absorbent, so every once in a while, you'll need to strip them.

I have, too. Another reason why I wouldn't mind the change over. Anything to make potty training easier.
I already use all free and clear. So that's good.
Rach, I like the idea of the all in one and one-size.
MB, I admit, it seems daunting having to keep up laundry and I really wonder if I can keep up with it!

I'd really double check on the detergent. I know the BG warranty is void if you use a detergent that isn't recommended by them, b/c it can mess with the absorbency of the cloth....as can many diaper rash creams.
