SF: Savings Accounts

With all this talk of a Niner GTG next summer, it makes me want to start my own little savings account.  I'm thinking ING Direct, but does anyone have any other suggestions?

Re: SF: Savings Accounts

  • We shopped around different banks in the area and went with one offering the highest interest rate. I like being able to walk in with cash to deposit or withdraw if needed.

  • We have just a regular savings account attached to our checking and then we have an ING savings account. I really like the ING account because I can't immediately get to the funds. So I actually have to take time, think about if I really need to transfer the money to my checking or if I can get by with what I have. Makes me save more.

  • I have a personal ING savings. The thing I like about it is it harder to take money out. Since you have to transfer it a few days before into another account I really think twice about taking money out.

haha should have read your response first before posting since I basically said the exact same thing as you.

Another ING saver here! Out of sight, out of mind! And automatic transfers.

Another notch for ING and for the same reasons as everyone else.

Also, I think at the time when I opened an account it was offering the highest percentage rate.

  • Right now we just have a money market account that's tied to our joint savings.  As we get more and more financially stable, I'd like to look into something like in ING account.

  • We have an ING account as well which is our big savings account (down payment, travel, etc...). The interest rate on it sucks right now but it's better than nothing.

We also have a small savings account tied to our joint Chase account the we will each periodically put money into and we use that for bigger purchases and for spending when we go away for the weekend or something. It also, occasionally, becomes the relief fund when our checking account gets too low Embarrassed

  • Another vote for ING. I also like that it takes a few days for money to transfer. I can't make snap decisions, taking money out  has to be a thoughtful and deliberate process.
